A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 15 this afternoon while investigating an accident about 20 miles south of Las Vegas. The highway's southbound lanes were closed after the crash, but reopened about 1:45 p.m.

The accident occurred about 12:40 p.m. near mile marker 8, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Fackrell said. Fackrell said he wasn’t sure if the trooper was standing outside or sitting inside his vehicle when he was struck.

The extent of the trooper’s injuries wasn’t immediately known, he said.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reported the southbound lanes had been closed 3.6 miles south of the State Road 161 interchange. The lanes were reopened, but delays are possible, officials said.
