Eek! A mau5! Those two in the front row are amazed by what they’re seeing.

Mau5 ears abounded as Deadmau5 packed Body English when the club reopened for a one-night-only special show October 15. The sold-out gig included performances of original tracks “Sometimes Things Get, Whatever” and new single “Animal Rights,” plus singer Sofia “SOFI” Toufa, who joined Deadmau5 on stage for “Sofi Needs a Ladder.” Blurring genres, Deadmau5 also dropped some Rage Against the Machine, dubstep and even hip-hop. The Mau5 rocked the hou5e until after 3 a.m. for a crowd that included pal Tommy Lee and ink icon Mario Barth, who tattooed a Super Mario Boo Diddley on Deadmau5’s forearm earlier that evening. Swaying to popular demand, Angel Management Group added a special afterhours party at Vanity, where the man in the mau5head performed until about 6 a.m. –Deanna Rilling

DJing has gone to the dogs. Specifically, pit bulls—and not the hit-making producer variety. DJ Tino, resident at Gold Lounge, Carmel and VooDoo has a soft spot for four-legged friends. His site, PeaceLoveandPitbulls.org, has teamed up with the Shelter Pet Rescue Network of Southern Nevada to dispel myths about the breed on National Pit bull Awareness Day, October 23, at the Valley View Rec Center (500 Harris St., Henderson). Visit pitbullday.com for complete details. –DR

Also going beyond the booth is Tao/Lavo resident DJ Vice. The self-proclaimed “sneakerhead” is bringing sneaker boutique CRSVR (pronounced “Crossover”) to Vegas. The 1,800-square-foot retail space is set to open inside the new Cosmopolitan with an exclusive grand opening party hosted by Vice on December 15. Read more about CRSVR here. –DR

Wayne Newton at the Fallout: New Vegas launch party featuring Vampire Weekend at Rain in the Palms on Oct. 16, 2010.

New party place alert! Introducing Area170 (not to be confused with Area 107.9, Area 702 Skatepark, etc). The 5,000-square-foot, all-ages venue opened October 15 at 3281 North Decatur with an electronic dance music party for teens. They’re looking for bands and DJs. Visit area170.com for more info. –DR

Here’s one way to get gamers off the couch: throw a video game release party. Fallout: New Vegas dropped on October 19, but designers and fans celebrated at the Palms last weekend with a surreal party at Rain that included “atomic cocktails” (lychee vodka and lemonade) and gaming consoles, each equipped with its own promo model, thus allowing guys to fulfill their lifelong fantasy of playing video games as a hot, attentive girl watches and cheers. On stage, Wayne Newton introduced Vampire Weekend, while geeky gamers and mustachioed hipsters sang along and smiled. It was a nice moment—especially considering that after the Great War of 2077, things won’t be so cheery. –Rick Lax
