SUN EDITORIAL:

Our selections for constable

Gariano is the pick in Las Vegas, re-elect Brown in North Las Vegas

In Nevada, constables are elected peace officers who are responsible for serving civil legal papers, including complaints, summonses and subpoenas. Constables also handle certain legal actions, particularly evictions. Their offices are funded by the fees they collect. Constables are elected by township in partisan races.

In the race to replace longtime Las Vegas Constable Robert “Bobby G” Gronauer, one candidate rises to the top — Peter Gariano. A marshal in Henderson, he started his career in the Las Vegas constable’s office. The Republican is a trained law enforcement officer, and he is the most experienced and qualified candidate in the race. The Sun endorses Peter Gariano.

North Las Vegas Constable Herb Brown, a Democrat, is running for re-election. A former North Las Vegas assistant police chief and U.S. Marshal for Nevada, Brown has served as constable for 12 years and deserves to be re-elected. Brown has the right training, experience and knowledge. The Sun endorses Herb Brown.
