America’s Got Talent Top 10, Jerry Springer at The Colosseum
Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 | 2:01 p.m.
A 10-year-old opera singer “with the voice of an angel” is set to electrify the audience at Caesars Palace tonight more accustomed to being wowed by Celine Dion, Cher, Bette Midler and Sir Elton John. There is no doubt in anybody’s mind that pint-sized Jackie Evancho from Pittsburgh will receive standing ovations and cheers for her Las Vegas debut at The Colosseum.
Since narrowly missing the Season 5 title on America’s Got Talent last month, music industry experts are already predicting superstardom for her. In fact, Jackie will be back in one week as a guest of David Foster & Friends for PBS at Mandalay Bay Events Center with Seal, Ne-Yo, Martina McBride, Natalie Cole, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan and more.
Tonight all eyes also will be on our hometown hero Michael Grimm. The multi-talented singer, songwriter and guitarist was playing local clubs and lounges for two years here before he finally landed on America’s Got Talent and defeated Jackie in the final moments to win the $1 million prize and a Las Vegas run.
Talk show titan Jerry Springer is hosting Jackie, Michael and the other all-star fan-favorites on their first nationwide tour of 25 cities. It’s also the first time that Las Vegas audiences receive an up-close look at the glam-rock baroque opera singer Prince Poppycock from Los Angeles --- in full makeup and costume
Others appearing tonight: 12-year-old New York ballroom dancing partners Anna and Patryk; inspirational singing sisters Christina & Ali from Idaho Falls, Idaho; death-defying championship stunt bike rider Jeremy Van Schoonhoven; mystifying magician Michael Grasso; teen pop singer Taylor Mathews; and the energetic dance troupes of Studio One Young Beast Society and the black-light Fighting Gravity.
The finalists won their slots in front of judges Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, but Michael, who performed most recently at Green Valley Ranch here, was selected the winner by TV viewers. AGT began in 2006 and has been sold to more than 100 countries, with local versions being produced in 24 countries.
Inside show business word is that newly departed American Idol judge Simon Cowell will launch his own talent show The X Factor in Las Vegas next year on the heels of its incredible success in Britain.
