Moped rider dies in northeast valley crash

A moped rider who was struck by a car this morning at the intersection of Craig Road and Nellis Boulevard in the northeast valley has died, Metro Police said.

Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said the incident involving an unregistered moped and a gray Nissan Maxima happened at 7:21 a.m.

Police said the 63-year-old male driver of the 2006 Urban 50 moped was trying to turn left into a private drive on Craig Road when he entered the pathway of the oncoming car, which struck and killed him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

This is the 55th traffic-related death in Metro's jurisdiction this year. Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
