Henderson man struck, killed by SUV at bus stop

Fatal pedestrian accident

A 50-year-old Henderson man waiting near a bus stop was killed Saturday when a sport utility vehicle lost control on a rain-slicked street and pinned him against a tree, Metro Police said.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of East Sunset and South Paradise roads, police said.

Evidence at the scene and witnesses indicate a 2004 GMC Envoy was turning left from southbound Paradise to go east on Sunset when the driver lost control and jumped the curb on Sunset, police said. The vehicle ran into the pedestrian and then hit a tree, police said.

The man was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released, pending notification of his family.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Shelena McNeill-Chew, 29, of Victorville, Calif. A 22-year-old California woman and a 21-year-old Las Vegas woman were passengers in the vehicle, police said.

The crash is being investigated by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section. It resulted in the 67th traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
