With vote tied, card draw will determine winner in rural Nevada county

CARSON CITY – The clerk-treasurer in sparsely populated Eureka County for the next four years is going to be decided by a draw of cards.

An initial count of the Nov. 2 election showed incumbent Clerk-Treasurer Jackie Berg, a member of the Independent American Party, had 376 votes to defeat Republican challenger Carrie Wright, who had 373 votes.

Wright, who formerly worked in the clerk’s office, requested a recount.

Deputy Secretary of State Matt Griffin says in the recount three votes were taken away from Berg with the contest ending in a tie.

On Friday the chairman of the Eureka County Commission will conduct the card drawing to determine the winner, Griffin said.
