The Department of Veterans Affairs is bringing a call center to Las Vegas that will create 400 jobs and lease up 51,000 square feet of office space.

Harsch Investment Properties announced the signing of a 20-year lease for the VA’s Consolidated Patient Account Center at 1085 Palms Airport Drive in the Paradise Airport Center.

The center will open in the summer of 2011, said John Ramous, vice president of operations of Harsch for the Las Vegas region.

“I think the ability to create 400 new jobs for the Las Vegas area is significant and shows whether it is small or large, how new business can and will impact our local recovery,” Ramous said.

The 20-year lease is valued at $21 million within the two-story office, 100,000 square-foot building that will be upgraded at a cost of $7.5 million, Ramous said.

International Gaming Technologies previously occupied the space.

Harsch officials said the firm was awarded the contract after a year of proposals.

TWC Construction of Las Vegas will serve as the general contractor on the project.
