CARSON CITY – After a vacancy for more than three years, Gov. Jim Gibbons announced Wednesday he appointed Tom Lozich of Las Vegas to the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security.

The commission has 14 voting members but there have been only 13 since the days of former Gov. Kenny Guinn.

The announcement of Lozich’s appointment was made Wednesday by the governor, but Lozich has been on the commission for two months and has already attended his first meeting.

Lozich worked 30 years with Metro Police and rose to the post of assistant sheriff. He is now corporate security and surveillance executive director at MGM Mirage.

The commission advises the governor on prevention, detection and deterrence of terrorism.
