Joseph DeMatteo
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is on the hunt for a Las Vegas man they say is running from justice.
Joseph DeMatteo was added to the EPA fugitive list today after failing to surrender to federal authorities following his indictment for criminal violations of the Clean Air Act.
DeMatteo and several others are accused of falsifying vehicle emission test reports in the Las Vegas area between November 2007 and May 2009. If convicted, DeMatteo faces up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Anyone with information about DeMatteo's whereabouts is being encouraged to contact local police.

Criminal violation of vehicle test reports?
This is ridiculous. Did this guy kill someone?
Did he rob someone?
The EPA is becoming like the IRS with penalties and fines that exceed the limitations of the 4th amendment to the constitution.
The police state of the US is growing everyday.
The emissions law here are getting into the greedy range of Cali emissions laws, so if I see this guy, I'll give him a pat on the back.
And I'm not saying emissions regulations are all bad, but I've known too many people who had to give up a working car that passed in numerous other states, just because it didn't have the "modern" controls of cars made in the past decade (e.g., only two catalytic converters instead of three). If you ask me, that's just plain wrong to use a well-meaning regulatory measure to force people to buy a more modern car. As long as there are diesels on the road, two catalytic converters should be just fine!
This guy has a warrant out for failing to appear. If he would have paid his fines and showed up in court for falsifying emmissions reports, he would be clear.
If you get a traffic ticket and fail to appear a warrant is issued. If you go to jail it is not for the traffic infraction, it is for failing to appear.
Why would you call local police to enforce a federal law?
According to Arizona protesters, the local police should stay out of federal matters.
He should just kill someone, he'll face a smaller sentence.
You total collection of idiots! It's truly a wonder you can walk upright and breath at the same time. Once again the AWESOME men and women of EPA's small but mighty criminal investigation division went to work to protect YOUR air, which is in significant non-attainment for the smog that comes out of the tailpipes of polluting vehicles. This dude and nine other were targeted for investigation because they did hundreds of fraudulent tests. If it was not for the Federal Clean Air Act (passed in 1970), morons like yourselves would have been dead years ago. Do you think that the auto industry or businesses would put pollution control ahead of profit without the EPA? Go get'em EPA!
Well, at least he looks like the honest type.
Todays line of the day is brought to you by.....

I'm not a tree hugger, but I am an air breather.
Good job EPA.
