The case of a 40-year-old North Las Vegas man accused of killing his wife in a domestic dispute April 16 was bound over to district court today during a preliminary hearing.

Bobby Dale Richards faces one count of murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the death of his wife, 46-year-old Bronwyn Richards. She was an art teacher at Joseph Neal Elementary School.

North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell set an arraignment in district court for 9 a.m. May 24.

Richards was arrested after giving voluntary statements to detectives about his wife’s death, which police say occurred at about 6 a.m. April 16 in the 3200 block of Atwater Drive, which is near the intersection of West Alexander Road and North Simmons Street.

North Las Vegas Police spokesman Tim Bedwell said the woman was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The coroner's office said she died of blunt force injuries to the head. According to the criminal complaint, Richards allegedly used a bat or some unidentified object to strike her.

He is being transferred from the North Las Vegas Detention Center to the Clark County Detention Center. Bail was set at $1 million.
