Police identify man killed in overnight parking lot crash

Las Vegas man’s car was suspect vehicle in earlier hit-and-run collision

Metrol Police have identifed Walter Faranda, 48, Las Vegas, as the man who was killed late Monday night in a parking lot crash following a hit-and-run collision a few minutes earlier.

Faranda died of blunt force trauma as a result of the crash, police said His death has been ruled as accidental, police said.

The accident happened about 11:50 p.m. Monday as Faranda was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo north through a parking lot at 5975 S. Spencer when it hit an embankment, officers said.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll and hit a light pole, police said. Faranda was pronounced dead at the scene, officers said.

Police said the Monte Carlo was a suspect vehicle from a minor injury hit-and-run collision reported at 11:43 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Boulder Highway.

The collision remains under investigation, officers said.
