Crash location
A 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon during a collision with a school bus on Sahara Avenue, police said.
Metro spokesman Marcus Martin said the crash occurred at 1:39 p.m. at Sahara and Atlantic Street, which is near Sahara’s intersection with Eastern Avenue.
Investigators said the bus was turning left from eastbound Sahara onto Atlantic on a permissive green signal as a westbound 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan was approaching with a green signal.
As the motorcycle approached the bus, the motorcyclist locked the brakes and the motorcycle fell onto its side, police said. The motorcycle and its rider slid into the side of the bus.
No children were on the bus, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the motorcyclist, who was a resident of Las Vegas, will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
The driver of the bus, identified as 44-year-old Miguel Quijano, wasn't injured.
Westbound Sahara from McLeod Street to Atlantic, and north and southbound Atlantic were closed while authorities investigated the crash.
This is the 26th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.
