flash point:
Sen. Woodhouse feels heat from GOP
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 | 2:01 a.m.
It’s been happening for months — indeed since the 2009 session ended. Democrats have known that state Sen. Joyce Woodhouse would be the GOP’s No. 1 target — perhaps the only seat in the upper house that Republicans have a chance to take. So Woodhouse has been — with a little help from her friends — doing more events and trying to keep in contact with her constituents. Now she has announced she will do four — count ’em — town halls in April. That just does not happen — unless someone is worried about his or her re-election. Woodhouse and Democrats are worried about attorney Mike Roberson. And that’s why she is suddenly out in the public more than ever.

Sooooo it looks like she is doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Holding town hall meetings to save her political future rather than just finding out what people are concerned about. I love politics and our politicians who are concerned about me, when it suits them.
I live in Senator Woodhouse's district and I attended a town hall of hers over a year ago. Although we don't see eye to eye on all the issues, she listened to my concerns and even followed up with an email and call.
Also, during last year;s session, I contacted her several times to share my opinion on legislation and she always got back to me. So, although these new town halls may seem suspicious to you, I am just impressed that a local politician is actually taking time to hear back from me. As a registered Republican, she has my vote.
Maybe she wouldn't have to worry about her re-election if she'd actually done anything during her time in the state senate. Her big legislative accomplishment during the last session was naming the vivid dancer damselfly as the state insect. Way to go, Joyce! (note the facetiousness)
There is no one in the Nevada Legislature who understands our education system more than Senator Woodhouse. It's so typical that you would attack her legislation that was a project she created to engage Nevada's school children. She created a contest for Nevada's forth graders to pick a state insect and lobby for it. It was a creative way of making young students engage and learn about the legislative process. But like I said before, it doesn't surprise me that you would attack her using one-liners and holding out facts, just as you always seem to do. Beyond that, Senator Woodhouse is the one who led the fight to protect our schools from Gibbons proposed cuts that would have destroyed higher education in Nevada. And let's not forget, Joyce is the one who led the fight to put Nevada in the running for federal Race-to-the-Top funds during the interim. Check your facts and next time find a better argument than attacking Joyce on her work with school children.
My only problem with Joyce is that I'm receiving robo calls on my home phone from her. Nothing better than grabbing the phone, and hearing a recorded message.
This alone would turn me away from voting for her. WTG, JW.
