The $3.9 billion Cosmopolitan gaming resort under construction on the Las Vegas Strip has a new name: "The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas."

Previously known as the "The Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino," the new name was announced last week as a settlement was reached in a trademark lawsuit filed against the Nevada project by Hearst Communications, owner of Cosmopolitan magazine.

“We are thrilled to announce the official name of the resort – The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. All legal issues regarding the name have been resolved," the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas said in its announcement.

Hearst, in a statement today, said: “According to the terms of our agreement, we can only state that the dispute between the parties has now been resolved.”

Controlled by Deutsche Bank, a late 2010 opening date has been expected for the resort.

But on Monday, the company didn’t respond when asked if an opening date had been firmed up and whether hotel and casino management companies had been lined up to run the property.

Further details should be available in April, a spokeswoman said.

The Cosmopolitan will have two 50-story towers with 2,995 hotel rooms and condominium-style accommodations, three pools, a spa, convention center and restaurant and nightclub offerings typical of large resorts.
