Fees at Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area rise on May 1.

Access to the Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area will get a little more expensive May 1, when entry fees at the popular hiking and climbing destination go up.

Day passes for a car on the 13-Mile Scenic Drive will be $7 instead of $5. Annual passes for the scenic loop will be $30 instead of $20. Tour bus rates will rise from $2 per person to $5 per person. And for the first time, bicyclists on the loop will be required to pay a fee, $3 per day.

Use of trails and parking pull-offs off the loop on Highway 159 will remain free.

This is the first fee increase at the national recreation area in more than 10 years, the Bureau of Land Management said.
