LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Why allow guns in some places but not others?
Tuesday, March 9, 2010 | 2:04 a.m.
I really appreciated Bloomberg News columnist Ann Woolner’s commentary in Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun, “Have we no right to be free of those who bear arms?”
Like her, I watch in amazement as more states enact laws allowing guns in bars, churches and schools, and the Supreme Court continues to strike down more city ordinances restricting the sale of firearms. I’m curious how sincere our senators, representatives (at state and national levels) and Supreme Court justices really are regarding the unrestricted rights of citizens to bear arms.
When those legislative and judicial bodies debate the issue, do they allow spectators to enter their chambers with weapons? If Washington, D.C., can’t enact a ban on weapons, then it stands to reason that law-abiding citizens should be able to carry firearms into the Supreme Court or the gallery of the House and Senate.
If those galleries are closed, then one has to question the sincerity of those Second Amendment fanatics.

Your agrument is silly.
Talk about straw-man arguments. You just received the Oscar for presenting a straw-man phony baloney argument.
In DC they can't ban firearms but they can still apply REASONABLE restrictions.
You advocate the UNREASONABLE restriction of a total ban or very restricted rules.
I am sorry that you do not want the right to own and bear arms to be in the Constitution.
If you don't like it then push to change the Constitution.
Gun owners......see how lib Democrats think. They want to have the government to tell you not to own any gun at all.
I assume we also should restrict free speech. Not allow people to write things you disagree with? Maybe restrict the press. Not allow criticism of politicians you like?
How about restricting freedom of religion. Let's ban whatever religion you dislike? How many rights do you advocate we restrict to meet your view of America?
stgrock,
The Dem's don't want your guns.
This is a phony baloney letter designed to inflame the NutJobs, and I'm sure it will have it's desired effect. Just like when Rush says something retarded just to get the hate-machine cranked up. It works, doesn't it?
Cox -- your understanding of this particular liberty is flawed. Your ignorance shows when you talk about laws "allowing" what the federal Bill of Rights and this state's Declaration of Rights guarantees. Exactly what part of "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed" and "Every citizen has the right to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes" do you need explained to you?
On the other hand your point "When those legislative and judicial bodies debate the issue, do they allow spectators to enter their chambers with weapons? " is quite excellent.
Ms Cox apparently thinks that this country was founded by bureaucrats and social workers talking to people and that is what made this a great country.
Ms. Cox, this country was started by a revolution by patriots who took up arms and went out and killed people with them. That is the cold hard truth.
Washington D.C. has one of the highest murder rates in the United States in spite of having the most strengent gun control laws in the country. It does not take a lot of intelligence to realize that they are doing something wrong. The elderly gentleman who filed the suit now being decided by the court is scared to death because all of the criminals carrying guns in his neighborhood that law enforcement cannot control. He wants the god given right to defend himself, his family and his property. Maybe when a crook is coming down your hallway at 4 AM some morning you think you can have a little chat with him and he will go away. I will take my Ruger over negotiation any time. It works.

You are right gmag.....Terry Cox is a nutjob.
Here is another letter by Cox.

So in your conspiracy crazed world....is Cox a left-wing nut-job who likes to stroke the passions of people who believe in the right to own guns?
I can see your point.
Democrats are so afraid if the citizens found out that that down-deep that Democrats would really want to strip guns away from every person in the USA.
So this left-wing nut job let the beans spill.
You are left with cleaning up the mess.
Wailer Terry Cox works for a retail gun store in Henderson. Sales are down a little, so this is one way to sale some more guns without paying the price of advertising.
Yup, Terry has got me so inflamed that I think I will go out and buy another gun or two, just in case our nutty Congress tries to ban the selling of guns.
See you. I am off to the Bass Pro Shop...
When a conservative chooses not to own a gun, he doesn't buy one.
When a liberal chooses not to own a gun, he wants to ban all guns.
When the president refrains from using firearms to protect himself and his family, so will I.
Terry Cox is a traitorous, liberal, pansy.
Aprilgirl12 -- you're following the wrong example.
The point of the Second Amendment, and every other protected liberty, is you are free to make the choice.
I have guns. Hunting rifles, shotguns, handguns, a starter pistol too. I even have a baseball bat. When some 3rd world immigrant is crawling in my window which one do you think I grab first? The Mossburg 12 gauge with buckshot gives me a 100 percent chance of seeing another sunrise Terry. The Louisville Slugger offers a .400 percent chance.
