Police search for intruder who shot man in apartment

Shooting

Metro Police are searching for a man who forced his way into an apartment near Decatur Boulevard Monday night and shot a resident of the apartment.

Police spokeswoman Officer Barbara Morgan said officers responded about 11 p.m. to the Woodlake Villas Apartments in the 4700 block of Pennwood Avenue, where a man who lives at the apartment was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

The location is near the intersection of Edna Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard.

Witnesses told police a man with a mask and handgun forced his way inside the apartment after a juvenile opened the door. The man demanded money from the resident, but the resident said he wouldn't give him money, police said.

An altercation arose between the two as the suspect shot the resident one time, police said. The resident’s son then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the suspect in the leg, Morgan said.

She said the suspect ran away after being stabbed. Police haven't released a detailed description of the intruder.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-555.
