Summertime heat cooking Las Vegas

High temperatures to hit 108 today, Wednesday, forecasters say

Las Vegas will get a little scorched again today, as temperatures sear up to 108 degrees by mid afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The burners are being turned up by high pressure that's also bringing dry weather to the valley, the weather service said.

Some monsoon moisture will creep into Northwest Arizona and the Colorado River Valley today and Wednesday, creating a slight chance for thunderstorms, forecasters said.

However, a southwest flow will dry out the region by Friday and temperatures will drop a few degrees to near-normal levels for the weekend, they said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 83 degrees and the low was 82 degrees an hour earlier. The normal low for today's date is 76 degrees. The record low was 60 degrees, set in 1941.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 79 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 81 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 81 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 95 degrees by 9 a.m., to 104 degrees by noon and reach a high of 108 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 103 degrees and the record high was 115 degrees, set in 1994.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 107 degrees by 6 p.m., to 99 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 92 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 83 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 108 degrees, they said.
