LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Cost of governor’s portrait out of line in this economy

Twenty thousand dollars for a portrait of the governor, are they serious?

Yes, it is a tradition that every Nevada governor have his portrait painted and then hung in the state Capitol, but in this time of economic crisis, is the cost justified?

Nevada’s budget is in the red, the unemployment rate is over 14 percent and the foreclosure rates are the highest in the nation. The governor called for budget cuts, so shouldn’t the cost of his portrait be cut also?

Gov. Jim Gibbons should have his portrait hanging in the state Capitol, but $20,000 is too much to ask from taxpayers at this time.
