Las Vegas lawyer accused of concealing $900,000 in income
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 | noon
A Las Vegas lawyer has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he allegedly hid more than $900,000 in income from the IRS and failed to pay about $270,000 in personal income taxes, U.S. Attorney for Nevada Daniel Bogden said Wednesday.
Charles C. LoBello, who practices business and personal injury law, is charged with five counts of tax evasion and five counts of making and filing materially false personal income tax returns. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count of tax evasion.
The maximum sentence for a conviction on false tax return charges is three years and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, Bogden said. The indictment was returned Tuesday.
According to the indictment, LoBello had more than $900,000 in unreported taxable income from his law practice from 2001 to 2005. He allegedly failed to file his tax return for 2001 and filed materially false corporate and personal income tax returns for 2002 through 2005.
Bogden said LoBello is accused of providing incomplete income information to his tax preparer and used personal checking accounts to hide large legal fee checks.
He is scheduled to appear in court on July 9 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lawrence R. Leavitt.

Yes way!
He's gonna have to pay all the back taxes plus interest & penalties. The he's probably going to be disbarred & then he's going to jail. I'm guessing he's not going to be enjoying the next 5 years.
Member of the "tea party"?
He just did what all lawyers do. What is the problem? He is just one that got caught, now how about the thousands of other lawyers who don't get caught.
So, two laywers, on a fishing trip in northern Alaska are being chased by a huge angry grizzly bear.
First lawyer: "He's GAINING on us! I don't think we can outrun him!!!"
Second lawyer: "I don't have to outrun HIM, I only have to outrun YOU!"
Taxation is THEFT -- protecting the privacy of one's assets is commendable -- even for a lawyer.
: {
Harley - then quit using all the things your taxes pay for. if it's theft, you should protest by abstaining
I love it when the crazy people come out and say taxation is theft. LOL....only an idiot would say such a thing. They would also be the first one to complain if there was a pot hole in the road, or if the fire department did not respond to their call fast enough. "The Something for Nothing Crowd".
my attorney!
:)
all you vegas attorneys...think twice about taking legal action against someone.
you never, ever really know who's on the receiving end of that subpoena. and with a little time and effort...it WILL come back to bite you.
Angry, I don't think inconceivable means what you think it means.
my apologies to the Dread Pirate Roberts.
He's a lawyer... What do you expect?
I know, he'll get Noel Gage to represent him.
Oh, wait, Gage is under house arrest. Maybe, the court will release Gage so he can defend his new client.
Why hasn't FBI/IRS gone after the biggest, and most flagrantly unethical attorney in the city, our not so honorable MAYOR, just weeks ago he boasted in his mob museum interview to this paper, about his "lucky" briefcase he has filled w/gelt(cash) (after getting murderers, drug dealers, and extortionists, off the hook).Millions in untaxed green money underneath his mattress, yeah thats right millions. So why no prosecution for him ? only one possible reason :...CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT,..they may let you keep your money, and your political positions: but you gave away your pals and your dignty...see you on the other side.
Wow saveriocarlo - aren't you sorry you didn't think of that first? hehehehehe
typical lawyer action. too bad our president and most of congress are scumbag lawyers too.
No Mamabear, not at all ,I sleep soundly each night, regardless if its in my king sized temperpedic, or a federally issued single cot . No regrets, no remorse, no excuses, no apologies, and certainly without hiding behind a bent city council and misinterpeted judicial decisions.
too bad he got nabbed. i love seeing people try to skip on the irs. that guys defense should be this "i dont want obama spending my money because he has no idea what hes doing" lol
Let's see...an attorney that hasn't paid his taxes. Sounds like he's qualified to work at the White House.
all lawywers are scumbags, until you get arrested for a crime that you didn't commit.
@Harley
you are an idiot.
All lawyers, doctors, dentists, judges, politicians, are not trustworthy as far as I am concerned..
If you get sick with bad teeth while under a jury summons for a trial of the mayor you may be in trouble.
I pay my taxes, every dollar I owe. It's time that those who make far more than I do pay their HONEST fair share. While most of us are afraid to even think about "fudging" to save 50 or 100 dollars for fear of getting caught, It's nice to know that those who cheat on huge amounts like this are tracked down and caught. Lawyer or not, serves him right. They should give him a choice, $i.5 million in taxes and penalties, plus interest, or 5 years "out of circulation" plus the $270k + interest.
Yeah, he was soooooooo smart he 'hide' the money in personal checking accounts. OMG - he should've used a check cashing place to cash them. Lawyers are only good for taking your money, they don't actually do anything else worthwhile. They certainly don't help clients - who needs 'em?!
LOL! Hiding $1 Million in income from the IRS will cost you $5 Million. ROTFLOL!!!!
Well first he'll get DISBARRED...then the gov't will jump on every pen, pencil, paperclip this piece of **** has. Then the boys will have fun with him at his new location...and I ain't talking club med.

Say its not so..... A lawyer breaking the law.. 9oo,ooo dollars is about almost to hard to hide,, by his way anyways... Hes just one of the many that do this and get caught...What a loser..........lol
Hey, I need this lawyer to represent me since I got personally injured...
Now what was that phone number again for the law office of Dewey Cheatham and Howe ?
C.mon people, you'd do the same thing,so what he tried to keep money for himself. Taxx on 900k is perty hefty, besides the federal government is just gonna throw it away anyway. I'd rather keep it then have have some third generation welfare baby factory get it, or some "undocumented citizen".
