LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Protect our youth by raising the driving age to 18

Regarding John M. Crisp’s June 8 column, “Let’s raise minimum driving age”:

I couldn’t believe I was reading a commentary that said something should be done about the driving permits and licensing of teens.

It amazes me to go past high schools and see the parking lots filled with automobiles, yet we keep talking about our kids needing more exercise. It also amazes me where they get the money to buy these vehicles, fill them with gas and keep up the maintenance.

What’s more disheartening is when you hear about a kid involved in a horrific accident, most often related to speed or careless driving.

If it were up to me, the law or regulation would be no license for driving until 18 or a high school diploma. Just think of all the precious lives that could have been spared, and maybe some of them would be much healthier. Sorry, kids, it’s our own good that is at stake.
