Golf cart blamed for Henderson garage fire

Fire

A golf cart parked in the garage of a home in the area of Henderson’s Anthem Country Club started a fire that did about $10,000 damage, the Henderson Fire Department reported.

Nobody was injured.

The homeowner reported the fire about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday after smelling smoke in the house on Sankaty Circle, fire officials said. When he opened the garage door, he found it was full of smoke, officials said. The man and his family got out of the house and called 911, officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they found the fire had been controlled by the home’s sprinkler system and knocked down the remaining flames, officials said. The fire was confined to the garage, with only minor smoke damage to the rest of the house, officials said.

“This incident is one example where sprinklers saved thousands in property damage and bought the family precious time to get out of the structure,” a Fire Department news release said.

The cause of the fire was listed as accidental and originated in the golf cart parked inside the garage, officials said.
