Intersection remains closed after water line rupture

An intersection in east Las Vegas remains closed after a ruptured water line caused part of the street to collapse.

A 74-year-old woman was injured Friday evening when she drove into a large hole at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road apparently caused by a water-main break, Metro Police said.

The woman was headed north on Nellis about 5:45 p.m. when she drove into the hole, which was large enough for most of her vehicle, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. Her injuries were minor.

Officials say the intersection will remain closed until Tuesday while crews repair the damage.

McGrath said the hole had doubled in size within a couple hours of the crash.
