When you think of incisive social commentary, pretty much the last name that comes to mind is Pauly Shore, but that’s exactly what the comedian is trying to deliver in his weird new movie Adopted, a mockumentary in the style of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat and Bruno, minus most of the creativity.
Adopted finds Shore headed to Africa on a fake mission to adopt a child, making tasteless jokes about Africans and subjecting some poor kids (most likely actors, hopefully well-compensated) to spending time with him while he behaves irresponsibly. The opening montage of Shore with plastic LA women is the only part that doesn’t feel like a pathetic grab for attention.
