Fatal crash
One person was killed in a collision on Las Vegas Boulevard North, near the intersection of Interstate 15, on Tuesday during rush-hour traffic, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Trooper Chelita Rojas said one fatality was confirmed in the crash, which involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and Suzuki motorcycle about 4 p.m. near the Apex Landfill.
The motorcyclist was killed in the crash, she said. The driver of the pickup was taken to University Medical Center with unknown injuries, she said.
Details about how the crash occurred were not immediately available, and the wreck remains under investigation, Rojas said. The highway, which had been closed, has since reopened, she said.

I don't understand how people can ride a motorcycle in the Valley....it's so dangerous here.
Apex has a rush hour?
Dropping like flies.
RIP.
There won't be any deaths if the Butt Heads driving their big cars and truck get off of the fricking Cell phone and pay attention to their driving!!!!
Freddie_ray has got it right!! When can we get a law passed to prohibit non "hands-free" cell phone use??
fatality during rush hour traffic should not happen. RIP.
You can almost tell the problem with the motorcyclist by the bike they ride. The ninja types always seem to be involved, where the Harley are seldom involved. I find the ninja riders are more aggressive and dangerous in comparision with the Harley riders. I know everyone should drive more safely but bikers I would be extra careful in this city. Even in my car I stay extra alert when on the road, some people drive just for the sake of driving with total disregard of others.
first of all to all those who think that the wreck was the motorcyclist fault. IT WASN"T...Know the facts before you start placing blame. The person trying to pass 2 semi's is to blame. He should have been more careful and paid more attention to on coming traffic. The fatality was a family member of mine, he was on his way to work, he had all his gear on but he was hit head on because someone thought they could pass 2 semi's. Not all fatalitys of motorcyclist's are because the person driving the bike was being stupid. This time it was the other way around. I agree with those who have said that people need to stop talking on their phones and texting while driving. Especially at high speeds and when you are trying to pass on a highway. R.I.P my friend. You are truly loved by many and will definitly be missed. We all love you that knew you.
RIP. I am travelling to Vegas from Liverpool, England in September and will be driving on your roads. You're all scaring me. Is it really that bad?
@TranmereRovers: I've lived in and traveled to quite a few large cities in the US, and Vegas has the most random, hyper-aggressive, unaware drivers I've ever encountered. My theory is that it's a mix of drivers from all over with clashing styles that creates the problem--slower drivers from other states rural areas, aggressive drivers from SoCal, and people who learned to drive in Mexico/El Salvador/etc where traffic rules are more guidelines than anything. Drivers here in general have a feeling of entitlement, and will defend their right to get to their destination faster than you, to the death if necessary. Another big problem here seems to kids 18-25 who are bulletproof and don't need to stop at signals or wear seatbelts and can wheelie their crotch rockets on the freeway with no fear of crashing. All of these things accumulate and snowball, and make the drivers who would ordinarily be safe drivers too aggressive or twitchy in response to what's happening around them.
So, yeah. Drive safe, or, if you're staying on the strip or downtown, just take cabs.
Tranmere: Just stay clear of California and you should be just fine !!!

@artswanson
This is nothing new. The more motorcycles on the road the more deaths there are. It's not much of a wakeup call, just a constant reminder.
@express445
A Ninja is a type of Kawasaki motorcycle. In this article it's a Suzuki. I think the term you're thinking of is "sport bike." A lot of sport bike riders don't have a lot of experience, or someone in a car or truck just doesn't see them. A lot of times it's not the fault of the rider, it's someone not paying attention. Also, there are a lot of deaths on Harley's and other types of motorcycles. However, a lot of those deaths involve alcohol or not wearing proper gear.
@ lawlknight, I disagree with "a sportbike riders often don't have experience." I will flip the coin and say the people in the cars lack the experience, as many of the motorcyclists have taken safety training courses.
Reminder to everyone: Driving anything is usually the most dangerous thing you will ever do. stay off the cell phones, don't drink prior (or during), check your blind spot, and be courteous to your fellow motorist/human.
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn , rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice, just know that I'm looking down on you smiling, and I didn't feel a thing, so baby don't feel my pain, just smile back.
LOVE YOU TRAVIS
You all should do your homewoek before you make dumb comments. This guy on the bike was just going home from a hard days work and the driver of the truck was on his way to work (both work at the same location). No one wants an accident to happen, thats why they are called "accidents". It just happens that the truck went to pass a vehicle in front of him on a turn and didnt see the bike coming the opposite direction towards him (and not breaking any laws). It is unfortunate and tragic for both families and the men and women who work with them both ON THE SAME JOB. And yes there is "rush hour" at Apex. FYI, that was the second of two fatal accidents at that area within a 12 hour period and one rollover accident today involving Harry Allen Employees. NHP, wake the hell up and do your freaking job, get out there and do something!
We all love you Travis. R.I.P young man. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
for the chic that said do their home work lol why dont u do urs my brother was on his way home from work he shouldnt be passing on a plass that is on a turn where you cannt see ahead of u duh common sense police report states no drivers license. guy was to much in a hurry to get home to think about anyone but himself witness said he was speeding so he was breaking a law duh plus no drivers license aint that breaking another law? hiding from the cops breaking the law? refusing a drug test hmmm seems fishy to me i think theres alot of room to say he broke laws i did my homework wheres yours at?
My husband worked with Travis on this job and please know his passing touched alot of lives and even by those who never met him. To his family - he was a good, hardworking young man and our prayers are with you.
