Coroner identifies 2 killed in Nye County crash

Updated Monday, June 14, 2010 | 4:58 p.m.

The Nye County Coroner’s Office has identified two people who were killed Sunday afternoon in a crash.

John Nelson Bunton, 50, of Pahrump, and his girlfriend, Sandra Ann Kozy, 53, of Pahrump, were planning to get married in October, said Pete Hagge, deputy coroner and deputy sheriff in Nye County. Both were killed when the Harley-Davidson trike they were riding crashed at milepost 39 as they were driving south on U.S. 95. The accident occurred at about 2 p.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, troopers said. The trike – a three wheeler – drifted off the right side of the road into a shoulder made of dirt and rock. Kozy, who was the passenger, was thrown from the vehicle. Bunton, the driver, died from injuries he suffered after the trike struck a barbed-wire fence.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
