Apartment fire
A kitchen fire blamed on unattended cooking caused an estimated $35,000 damage to an apartment in the 2300 block of North Green Valley Parkway, the Henderson Fire Department reported.
The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday by a neighbor who tried to put out the blaze with an extinguisher, fire officials said. Two people in the apartment had already made it out safely when firefighters arrived, officials said.
Firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen, with smoke damage to the rest of the apartment and a unit above it, officials said.
The neighbor was evaluated for smoke inhalation but was released at the scene, officials said.
