High reaches 103 — and it’s only getting warmer

After reaching the triple digits Thursday for the first time this season, the mercury continued its rise Friday ahead of a sizzling weekend.

The National Weather Service said the temperature hit 103 degrees today at McCarran International Airport. The record high for June 4 is 109 degrees set in 1996.

The low tonight will drop to about 81 before another scorcher on Saturday, at 107 degrees.

The temperature is expected to rise to 108 on Sunday and Monday, prompting the weather service to issue an excessive heat warning.
