CARSON CITY – Jacob Hafter, a Republican candidate for Nevada attorney general, has lost his appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court to stop the state Bar from disciplining him for misleading statements.

The court denied Hafter’s request for a writ of prohibition to preclude the Bar from engaging in possible disciplinary action. A screening panel of the Bar has decided to issue a letter of reprimand.

Hafter has 14 days to object to or accept the proposed reprimand.

The court said Hafter has time to ask for a formal or informal hearing before a disciplinary board. “No actual disciplinary action has been taken against petitioner at this time,” said the court.

Hafter says a grievance has been filed against him for comments he made about Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto concerning her handling of the suit against the health care package of President Obama.

He has denied making any misleading statements. He has also filed a suit in federal court in Las Vegas.
