LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

In education, change methods, not the principal

As I am new to Las Vegas, I read the Las Vegas Sun’s story of Kelly Sturdy and Fay Herron Elementary with great interest (“What the tests can’t measure,” May 23).

It seems Sturdy is doing everything she is supposed to do and is beloved by all. That seems richly deserved, as she cares what happens to her pupils and her school. So where does the fault really lie?

Fifty years ago it was possible to get a really good education without trying very hard.

What has changed? Perhaps the curriculum and “modern methods” ought to be held responsible and replaced, not the principal.
