LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

A road map for successful candidates

Saturday, July 31, 2010 | 2:03 a.m.

If candidates want victory in November, they need to avoid falling into party “talking point” traps. Forget about the blame game and bad-mouthing opponents. We are all aware of what incumbents have and have not been doing. Those of us who have lived long enough have definitely erred and offended along the way.

The candidate for national office receiving my vote had better be prepared to hit the ground running on the first day in office. I need to know orally and in writing exactly what action will be taken to eliminate excessive deficit spending, eliminate earmark attachments to all legislation, achieve a balanced national budget, lower all taxes, restore to Social Security the money Congress “borrowed,” ensure all current laws are duly enforced before any new laws are proposed, strategically control illegal immigration with no retroactive “free passes,” learn the Constitution and do what is required to ascertain that those who are acting contrary to the law are held accountable.

In particular, states’ rights and individual rights need to be adequately protected from federal intervention. No legislative proposals should be considered without documented assurances that all members of Congress have completely read and possess a functional understanding of their contents.

In the matter of Congress creating jobs, understand that the Congress cannot create jobs except those that need to be funded by tax dollars.

If enough voters demand honest and genuine government officials, we just might see the United States of America restored as a nation of proud, productive and prosperous citizens.
