Spirit Airlines, a Florida-based air carrier with four round-trip flights a day in and out of Las Vegas, will add a daily flight between McCarran International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International in November.
The discount carrier announced that it would add daily late-night flights and compete with industry giants United and American on the route.
Beginning Nov. 11, Spirit, which flies twin-engine Airbus A319, A320 and A321 jets, will have daily flights leaving Chicago at 10 p.m., arriving at McCarran at midnight. The return flights leave Las Vegas at 12:50 a.m., arriving in Chicago at 6:20 a.m.
United currently operates six flights a day between Chicago and Las Vegas and American, five flights a day.
Spirit currently offers two daily round trips linking Las Vegas with Detroit and with Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the airline’s hub airport.
Spirit is best known as a discount carrier to Caribbean destinations and Central and South America with some domestic flights to Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston and Las Vegas.
The company also operates a “$9 Fare Club,” which enables members to purchase deeply discounted tickets, some as low as $9 one way. The annual membership in the club is $40, but it’s free to customers who acquire Spirit’s branded MasterCard.

what do you get for $9? if the plane has mechanical problems and cant go, they tell you" what do you expect for $9, come back tomorrow".
Isn't this the airline that used to be called ValuJet until they crashed an airplane into a Florida swamp?
<United currently operates six flights a day between Chicago and Las Vegas and American, five flights a day.>
What about Southwest's flights out of MDW to LAS? And Delta's? This article sounds as if there are only 11 flights a day out of Chicago to Vegas.
MDW is a hair rasing experience flying 10 to 20 feet above the roof top to land. You can see people waving there hands out there windows.
It reminds me of NOE( Nap of earth) when I was in the Army.
I 'm sorry...is this a airline? or is this a long distance crop duster ? I thought flying low was to avoid radar.
I flew from AC to Boston more than 20 times in a year and paid $9 probably 18 times...I think full fare (about $50) once and once I paid $1!!!! Bus would have cost me at least $100...train $200...at LEAST...probably much more. I did not die and did not pay any extra fees on Spirit. Also, train or bus takes 8 hours...Spirit...45 minutes..they are in business for a reason.
They are the Wal Mart of airlines.
Don't forget to add $30 - $45 for your carry on bag, which Spirit just started charging for beginning today.
