LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Mexico’s stance on Arizona law is hypocritical

Friday, July 30, 2010 | 2:01 a.m.

On Wednesday I read the following beginning of a news article:

“Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) — Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Patricia Espinosa called Wednesday’s decision on Arizona’s immigration law ‘a step in the right direction.’ ”

This, despite the fact that local Mexican law enforcement can demand documentation from any “foreigner.” And they do. Yet this Mexican official thinks it’s OK that a judge ruled that American local law enforcement can’t do the same. Is it possible to be more hypocritical?

America has been invaded by citizens of a foreign country during the terms of the past six presidents (current one included) and not one of them has done a damned thing about it. Oh, sorry, one (Ronald Reagan) gave amnesty to a whole bunch of foreign invaders — that was sure effective in stopping the invasion, wasn’t it?

Arizona’s voters passed a law that allowed them to address a major problem in their state — a problem that is clearly the responsibility of the federal government, and which the federal government has conveniently ignored for years.

Now, with the federal judge’s ruling, things can just go on as they have for the past 25 years — America will continue to be invaded and the federal government will turn a blind eye to the problem. After all, cheap labor is good for the country, right?

Maybe instead of addressing this problem we can invade some other country — the federal government seems to be really good at that.
