The Henderson Fire Department battled two “suspicious” fires in the same area early this morning.

The first fire was in the detached garage of a Henderson home and caused about $5,000 in damage, Henderson firefighters said.

Firefighters said they responded to a 911 call from a passerby at 1:37 a.m. to a fire in the area of Candelaria Lane and Fletcher Road in the area of Eastern Avenue and Serene Avenue.

Upon arrival, the first fire unit discovered an abandoned single-family residence, with the detached building/garage fully involved in flames.

The blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes and there were no injuries, firefighters said.

About two hours later, firefighters responded to a report of a second fire in the same area.

A passerby called 911 just before 4 a.m. to report the fire, which was also in an abandoned single-story residence.

Fire crews arrived about five minutes later to discover heavy fire and smoke coming from every window on the front side of the house.

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the fire, which caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

Fire officials are investigating the causes of both fires and say both were considered suspicious.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in either incident.
