House fire area
The Henderson Fire Department battled two “suspicious” fires in the same area early this morning.
The first fire was in the detached garage of a Henderson home and caused about $5,000 in damage, Henderson firefighters said.
Firefighters said they responded to a 911 call from a passerby at 1:37 a.m. to a fire in the area of Candelaria Lane and Fletcher Road in the area of Eastern Avenue and Serene Avenue.
Upon arrival, the first fire unit discovered an abandoned single-family residence, with the detached building/garage fully involved in flames.
The blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes and there were no injuries, firefighters said.
About two hours later, firefighters responded to a report of a second fire in the same area.
A passerby called 911 just before 4 a.m. to report the fire, which was also in an abandoned single-story residence.
Fire crews arrived about five minutes later to discover heavy fire and smoke coming from every window on the front side of the house.
It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the fire, which caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
Fire officials are investigating the causes of both fires and say both were considered suspicious.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in either incident.

It's called the new foreclosure option.
if it looked like the shack in the background no wonder they burned it down.
Beyond Serene (2005)
the highway goes there now
a knotted web of tar, asphalt, and drying paint
shaped
by what they, we, hope to keep but can't
clean white-washed walls leading out of the city
brown men who cannot live here, yet unrolling a lush carpet of green,
an oasis
on both sides of the road beyond Serene
what most people want
what most people dream of
torn out fields of fountain grass
meadows tiled over with concrete
and in the natural after
the desert wash, on both sides of Serene, plugged and played on
reflections in a stream of weed killer and water flowing down the road
pools and parks installed, a pipeline of water sucking water from nowhere
as flocks of pigeons follow through the haze, from the road beyond Serene
what most people want
what most people dream?
envelopes changing manicured hands
smiles and nods leading to more blueprints on the politicians' drawing boards
mortgaged upper working-class estates, a high-end mall and a casino
attractively-valued investments, spreading like open sores
oozing over the mountain's now pox-like face
gates and guards to stop bad fortune
a convenience store, a gas station, a billboard, a bus stop
the once white-washed walls now tagged with blue spray paint
Yeah, what Shermspun said.
can you spell "no insurance"....
I've driven past that area, and the fire dept. is WAY off thinking that garage was worth $5k and the house was worth $55k. More like $5k for both. They were old broken down shells of houses. (Like the neighbor in the picture)
I bet it was blocking someone's strip view, and poof, its gone.
I wonder if they we're empty:)
