A new kennel in the southwest valley promises a vacation for the dogs while their owners are out of town.
Puppy Playhouse, a local franchise, is planning to open its third location, on Bermuda Road near Silverado Ranch Boulevard. The Enterprise Town Board approved its application Wednesday night, sending a recommendation to county commissioners for final approval.
Pets would have a 5,600-square-foot area to exercise outside during their stay, complete with a swimming pool and toys. The interior features another run area and grooming stations.
Nelson Tressler, senior vice president at Retail Group, represented the business and said Puppy Playhouse works to keep dogs involved and lively while their owners are away.
“It’s like dropping your dog at the dog park,” he said.
One point of contention for the land use staff was noise and odor emanating from the kennel. Nelson reassured the board that the company has established daily trash pick-up at its other locations and evaluates dogs for excessive barking before accepting them.
The board stipulated that Puppy Playhouse face a one-year review and allow dogs outside only between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. The applicant agreed. No neighboring residents protested the kennel’s opening.
The planning commission meeting is scheduled for Aug. 17.
