Man in wheelchair dies in traffic accident

70-year-old man killed near downtown Las Vegas

A 70-year-old man was killed this morning near downtown when a car struck him as he was crossing Charleston Boulevard in his wheelchair.

Officers responded at 11:00 a.m. to a crash at the intersection of Charleston and South 11th Street. A 2008 Mini Cooper, driven by a 42-year-old woman, was traveling east on Charleston in the two-way center turn lane, police reported, and hit the man as he crossed Charleston from south to north in a marked crosswalk

The man was transported to UMC Trauma and pronounced dead on arrival. His name will be released after the family is notified.

The collision remains under investigation. This is the 44th traffic related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
