Three children escaped a fire that engulfed their Henderson home Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

Henderson Fire Department battalion chief Doug Koopman said firefighters responded at 3:45 p.m. to a fire at 2546 Valencia Circle, near Wigwam Parkway. A Clark County Fire Department truck, which happened to be in the area, arrived at the scene first.

One civilian was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and three firefighters were transported to a hospital for evaluation, Battalion Chief Matthew Morris said.

When fire crews arrived, Koopman said the fire in the garage had extended into the two-story house.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but fire officials said the house is a complete loss and two pets have not been located. No one else was injured in the blaze.

Koopman said initial reports indicated that a dryer in the home played a role in the fire. Fire investigators later confirmed that the fire was accidental, and was started in the garage from an electrical problem, Morris said.

A neighbor at the corner of the cul-de-sac, who asked not to be identified, said he saw the home's garage door open and heard a popping sound, followed by a flame coming from the garage.

He dialed 911 as the three teenage children who were home at the time ran out of the house. Their parents weren't home at the time.

"Before I hung up the phone, the whole back garage was engulfed," he said.

Because of the hot weather, additional fire crews were called in to allow firefighters to rotate. A total of seven fire engines, two trucks, 5 rescue units, two battalion chiefs and two chief officers responded to the fire.

The Red Cross also responded to the fire to assist the displaced family, Morris said.
