Delta Air Lines will stick its toe in the water on a new route with Saturday-only nonstop flights between Las Vegas and Hartford, Conn., beginning Oct. 2.

Flights will leave Hartford’s Bradley International Airport at 5 p.m., arriving at McCarran International Airport at 7:45 p.m. The return flight leaves McCarran at 11 p.m., arriving in Hartford at 6:47 a.m. the next day.

Delta, the second-busiest carrier at McCarran, will use twin-engine Boeing 737-800 jets on the route.

Delta will compete with Southwest Airlines, which operates a daily round trip on that route.

While Delta, which has 45 daily flights to and from Las Vegas, is only operating the route once a week, airlines commonly begin operations with less frequency and add more flights if seat sales pan out.

Announcement of the Las Vegas route comes on the heels of Delta ceasing operations on a nonstop route between Hartford and Los Angeles on Sept. 30, four months after startup. When those flights cease, Hartford will have no nonstop flights to and from the West Coast.
