Foothill High’s Evan Roquemore lays it in Friday, Feb. 18, 2010, during the Sunrise Regional championship game at Liberty High School Friday. Roquemore scored 15 points, but the Falcons were defeated 76-60 by Canyon Springs.
Foothill High graduate Evan Roquemore has committed to the Santa Clara basketball program, Falcons coach Kevin Soares said.
Roquemore, a 6-foot-3 combo guard who averaged 23.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game last winter, also had offers from Air Force, Ball State, Boise State, Fairfield and LaSalle.
He is the first Foothill player to go directly into Division I basketball. The school opened in 1999.
“I’m happy for him. I’m happy for his family,” Soares said. “It’s a great thing for Foothill basketball.”
Roquemore plans to sign later this week, but said he is enrolled in the school and anxious to start his career. He expects to immediately compete for playing time at point guard.
“Santa Clara is definitely up-and-coming,” he said. “I definitely bring some leadership and the ability to get my teammates involved.”
