Former UNLV baseball coach Buddy Gouldsmith
Former UNLV baseball coach Buddy Gouldsmith was hired Friday as an assistant coach at instate rival UNR.
Gouldsmith, who posted a 202-217 record in seven seasons at UNLV, will work with the outfielders, hitters and coach third base for UNR.
“Buddy brings a tremendous amount of Division I experience to our staff,” UNR coach Gary Powers said in a statement. “His recruiting ties and knowledge of our opponents we play will be great asset to our staff.”
Gouldsmith led UNLV to the Mountain West Conference tournament title his first two seasons, but the Rebels failed to reach the NCAA Tournament the last five years.
Tim Chambers was hired in June as Gouldsmith's replacement at UNLV.
