Now that Jim Gibbons is finally leaving office, the state of Nevada can focus on important matters: the gubernatorial portrait, which will hang in the Nevada State Capitol.
The request for proposals, issued last month, explained that the selected artist will be paid $17,500 to (according to Nevada Revised Statute 223.121) create a figurative oil painting in the traditional style of all previous governor portraits. To that point we’d argue that our governor is as far from traditional as you can get. So the Weekly asked four Las Vegas artists to create a Gibbons portrait in the style and medium of their choosing.
