One-car crash kills 19-year-old man in Laughlin

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 | 5:51 p.m.

Approximate crash location

Metro Police said a single-vehicle accident killed a 19-year-old male passenger Tuesday morning in a desert area west of Needles Highway and Bruce Woodbury Drive in Laughlin.

Authorities said a Pontiac Grand Am traveling south on a gravel road at 3:58 a.m. began sliding sideways when the 17-year-old female driver apparently lost control, causing the car to roll over and eject the passenger, police said.

Authorities said the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered only minor injuries, investigators said.

The man's name will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. This is the 42nd traffic-related fatality this year in Metro's jurisdiction.
