LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
GOP shows it will exploit tough times
Tuesday, July 20, 2010 | 2:04 a.m.
Recent editorials and letters to the editor have taken the Republicans to task for fighting extensions of unemployment benefits and financial reform. This obviously falls on deaf ears within the Republican Party because it is to the GOP’s political advantage to keep unemployment high and have people with short memories dissatisfied so they will blame their problems on the current administration.
The Republican Party has shown time and time again its disdain for the average working person. It also has shown how easy it is to get the uninformed voter to consistently vote against his or her best interests.

Hey Harold - you've got it all turned around. As folks fall off the unemployment rolls, they do not count in the federal figures that determine the unemployment percentage. When the extension passes this week, there will be more folks collecting unemployment insurance and they again enter the system and are counted as unemployed, thus raising the percentage not working. It is actually to the dems advantage to have a lower unemployment percentage and by passing this unfunded bill, they will increase the federal numbers.
As you state so wonderfully, its the uninformed - you - that support the dems in voting against the countries best wishes. Put a bill together with only a funded unemployment extension and the republicans will support it. Have your buddy Harry remove all the pork and the increase to the deficit and the bill passes 100 - 0.
Spoken like a true Democrat who is on the run. RUN RUN RUN! Foot steps are getting louder.
There certainly is hypocrisy in Democrats circles as they oppose PAYING for extending these unemployment benefits to 123 weeks.
Obama need to pay for benefits AND job creating.
//////////////////////////////////
This obviously falls on deaf ears within the Democrat Party because it is to the DEM's political advantage to keep unemployment high and unemployed needing government assistance.

Democrats Just PAY for the benefits

Just put it on the ole credit card, right Harold? Spend Baby, Spend!
Harry Reid, the Obama administration, and the House Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi , have plunged Nevada into the abyss of economic and social chaos. Reid's leadership role in the Senate has pushed Nevada into a deep pit of record unemployment and home foreclosures that are among the worst in the nation. Thousands of Nevadans are out of work and out of their homes. Clearly, Reid and his camp can claim nothing but failure in Nevada as a result of all the wasted dollars in stimulus funding and thousands of pages of legislation which were jammed down the throats of an unwilling majority of Nevadans . Nevada's economy is in dismal shape with no end in sight.
Harry Reid has been an integral partner with the Obama administration and House Democrats in fostering policies and legislation which are literally destroying the wealth and security of both Nevadans and the rest of America. There is no option--Harry Reid must go.
Reid is also a major factor in advancing the welfare addicted economy.Get him out of here!
Who else to blame but the incumbents? They were at the scene of the crime. Nothing personal about it all.
want proof of how the republican maggots will exploit anything to get their way...
look at w the maggot and cheney the evil doer...
these maggots exploited our patriotism to start a war based on lies...
got that...
a war that will cost $2 trillion when all is said and done...
a war that has killed over 4,000 brave american kids...
a war that has killed over 100,000 innocent iraqis...
wake up and smell the coffee boys and girls...
republicans are pure evil!!
Mr. Wasserman, please KNOW that EVERYTHING done by BOTH parties is for political gain...the key word here, Mr. Wasserman, is BOTH...as in ALL OF THE ELITE...get it?...people, STOP with this my side is great and your side is evil crapola...stop already!
Allow me to remind you of the infamous 'in-your-face-America' quote by Rahm Emanuel...he, the President's Chief of Staff...
On November 9, 2008 the New York Times reported...
"Rule one: Never allow a crisis to go to waste," Mr. Emanuel said in an interview on Sunday. "They are opportunities to do big things."
...a little exploitive, doncha think Mr. Wasserman?
To add to this article, within the past two weeks, there have been this progression of Republicans step forth to hammer one point. There's been McConnell, Sessions, Pence, Kyl, you name it, they have all come out to try to make a campaign issue that the tax cuts for the very rich must be extended.
And in the same breath, they use some kind of bizarro mathematics to try to say that the deficit and tax cuts for the very rich go hand in hand. The numbers don't back it up at all. It's nonsense.
The only goal clearly is to pander to the rich for their votes and campaign money.
In the Republican Party world, if they get their way, every facet of American life from the middle class wage earners down to poverty level must pay for the rich to make more money. There's some kind of idiotic belief that the rich will turn around and invest it back into society.
Oh sure, the rich who have businesses hire people and pay them. But this in no way, shape or form makes them exempt from paying taxes. It don't go hand in hand. If it does? Then NO ONE should be paying taxes at all. All I see are nonsensical paradigms and idioms and methodologies to try to say an apple is an orange. They are just looking for an excuse to make their case.
The simple fact is that the very rich, at least for the past decade, since the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, HAVE NOT paid their fair share of taxes. The rest of us have. But NOT them.
I am so glad we have a President in office that sees through this load of fecal matter.
And the fact of the matter is that when the tax cuts for the very rich expire, it will add at least a few trillion dollars to pay off the national debt. THIS is the truth of the matter.
But be prepared for the Republican Party come up with elaborately prepared and designed bottles with flowery script labels and catchy wording on it to try to sell an elixir that will be guaranteed to prove wonderous and good for you. But after you buy it and use it? Turns out it is snake oil.
In other words, we see through your crap. It's not going to work.
brownin, if the Democrats proposed exactly the Republicans positions on ANY issue they would have a hard time even passing the bill let alone 100-0. They could have a bill extrolling the fact that puppies are cute and it would be hard to get 60 votes from these power hungry Republicans.
Notacon - so you telling me that the dems are not power hungry?? They used every item in the book to pass health care, including giving pork to senators for their votes. This is not power hungry democrats when the majority of Americans did not want this health care bill? If not power, what is it ??
Oh I know, the dems know whats best for me as I'm not capable of taking care of myself or making good decisions for my own well-being. Right??????
brownin4 - "Put a bill together with only a funded unemployment extension and the republicans will support it. Have your buddy Harry remove all the pork and the increase to the deficit and the bill passes 100 - 0."
Never happen, the GOP has set all times records filibustering (114 last session and 74 this session) the Dems. The GOP is trying to take back power by causing the country to be further damaged, that way they can blame the Dems.
If you people believe that when the parties switch power, things will get better, you are delusional. Try to remember how we got into this mess.
It seems that both sides are exploiting the situation. The Dems agreed to pay for the unemployment extension last year but refuse to do so this year in what seems like a ploy to create an issue. The Republicans are making an issue of budget deficits that didn't seem to worry them much a couple of years ago when they were doing it. If the Democrats really wanted to pass this, they could have taken some of the over $400B in unspent stimulus or the over $200B in TARP money or something to appease the Republicans, but they want an issue and they will be very happy when they get their new West Virginia Senator and can pass this in spite of the Republicans.

Question -
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Exactly how do you idiots think our Treasury would ever make up the tremendous theft from AWOLBush, his trillion dollar tax cut for his rich jerks, two totally stupid wars costing trillions and his total fairlure to ensure that Federal Agencies did their lawful job of regulating for the purpose of protecting us guys out working for a check?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Idiots, answer the questions. Future, do not, you are in a smoking vacuum of delusion and merriment in the joy of your freedom to balb utter insanity in this medium.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Our economic issues are easily solvable, easily, by ending the two insane AWOLBush wars and the stupid tax cut, closing Gitmo and raising the SS cap and capital gains tax and abolishing IRS and NASA and putting in the national sales tax by Bortz ... a crazy but with one really great idea .... and there are more too, just I have to make sure Gustavo and Juan get their prep work done for 500 diners tonight. My time is short. You idiots, answer some intellingent questions honestly and without your usual everyday racism and hate and distortion and lies of socialism and let me say it bluntly, crap.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
AWOLBush left this country so dumbed down our national population is completely engrossed in Lohan's going to jail. I hope he gets prosecuted for his war crimes and spends life in the prison at the Hague, a place where he certainly belongs along with his henchmen of torture and war and crimes .... and their abondonment of the American people, once the mightiest people of all, but now being passed by China and India and a clutch of small nations.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I hereby ask that all who earn $500,000 and more each year to voluntarily send our government $25,000 additional tax each and every year that you earn this or more. Show your love of your country.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Live And Let Live .... you can then die free
Like Obama adminstration has said over and over and over again....Don't let a good crisis go to waste.
Those that wear the Republican never accept responsibility for their miserable failure policies that has basically wrecked America.
They will not work with the Democrats to get America moving onward and upward as they should do.
They want Americans to experience pain, pain, and more pain from the conditions they have created.
They want you, the American citizen to then blame the Democrats and not them. Ooh no, do not blame me! Yes, I did almost destroy America. Yes, I am not going to help repair the damage I have done, Yes, I will blame the Democrats trying to repair America.
brownln4: Both parties want power badly, of course. However, the Republicans are willing to wreck the country in their quest for power. It does not matter to them what happens to common people. Their rich and corporate constituents must be protected. The Democrats have proved that they are more for the general populous.
Houstonjac reposts this nonsensical summary of recent events every day:
"Harry Reid, along with the Obama administration, and the House Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi , have plunged this nation to the abyss of economic and social chaos which, unless quickly reversed, will take many years to recover. This combination of political actors has placed Nevada into a deep pit of record unemployment and home foreclosures that are among the worst in the nation."
I guess you completely missed the fact that the economic collapse happened on Bush's watch? You seem to have moved it somewhere else. To another administration, in fact. Maybe your memory short-circuited?
You also seem to forget that the housing market imploded under the last administration. Hmmm. May I suggest an Alzheimer's test?
Add to the above two foreign wars, which are still costing us 11 billion a month.
And a doubling of the national debt.
And spiralling health care costs.
All of that under the last administration.
What a strange trait the Republicans have--they have extreme difficulty accepting responsibility for their actions coupled with an unusual projection of their own actions onto another party.
Bizarre.
I might suggest an overall mental health checkup while you're at it. Actually, for your entire party.
Tell your doctor that you're all having the same problem: difficulty with your memory and with your connection to reality. No ability whatsoever to remember the recent past.
And a strong tendency to blame others for the chaos you've created.
Let us know what your doctor says. Then see if you can remember to get back to us.
AP
FLOOZY!!!...YOU GET IT!!!...NOW, please persuade Vern, Bird, Notacon, Vidi, Colin, et al, as I have grown weary from trying...pretty please!...when they get it, then -- and only then -- can we hope to move forward...
From everything I see, this President and his administration clearly does nothing but move forward.
And not backwards.
And that's what we would get if the Democrats were to lose power.
Failing economic policies, no care for paying for anything and two wars, one of which was started under false pretenses when intelligence pointed to the contrary, are not in vogue anymore.
That got us into a ditch. Actually, not a ditch. More like a deep and wide chasm.
And to go back and do that Republican Party technique of pandering to the rich and kowtowing to corporations for money, influence, power, corruption and just plain outright greed, will just make us go...backwards.
Only time you walk backwards is to try to fake out the usher of a movie theater so you don't have to pay for entrance.
And this kind of technique was followed by Republicans religiously in the past.
No more.
Think forward.
Not backward.
The boot licking wingnut bloggers have listened to the Fox propagandists, hate radio, and their leadership propagate lie after lie and repeat them over and over for years.
They are brainwashed and do not even know it. The opinions they have stored between their ears are not their own opinions.
They do not have an ounce of mental strength left to just analyze those opinions. The constant lies have occupied every square centimeter of their organism which has crowded out the truth.
This has made them a perfect human robot pawn.
When we take lobbying money and special interest corporations out of the system, then maybe both parties can agree to compromise.
Both sides cater and pander to those who are really in controll our economy.
Of course we'll hear the nonsense about unions, but with a 12% membership, they don't really have the clout of the lobbyists, some who actually write policy and have it legislated.
I get it Purgatory, as I said before, I post many times to expose hypocrisy. People comment using Fox talking points, so I try to expose the idiocy of those comments.
I'll quote the GOP game as per Rush Limbaugh, "I want him to fail!"
Obama was naive enough to work with them. He received a rude awakening, and he is correct in exposing the hypocrisy of that party about the stimulus and other talking points.
You can't have it both ways. I have yet to see the GOP attempt to work with Dems on any issue since the election of Obama. Those that did got a slap down and did a 180 degree turn from their position.
I have been having problems posting to the "letters"-slow loading and unable to post twice, once yesterday and then today
Anybody else having problems?
Yes .. there was a power spike here in Vegas and I would assume the Sun server was affected. Happened yesterday also.
Republcans once wanted to implement:
Cuts to MediCare
Cap and Trade
Cut nuclear weapons by a third
Illegal immigration amnesty
Mandate for health insurance
and a few others I can't remember.
Obama tried to put the same in motion then the right went nuts. "He's making our country unsafe, turning us to socialism!"
GOP ideas all of a sudden became socialist/nazi/communist ideas. That is the hypocrisy of the right and it's leaders.
We have a new champion.
houstonjac has taken Lady Gogo's title as Most BS Poster.
Congrats, hj.
BTW, anyone here been to Houston lately, down in the red state of republican Texas?
What a %#$&ing polluted hellhole.
Unfortunately I have the sad honor of having been born and raised there but got out years ago. Still go back to visit relatives, however, and remember why I left.
It's a model for how NOT to build a clean, livable city.
ColinFromLasVegas - "From everything I see, this President and his administration clearly does nothing but move forward."
Exactly, I can't remember a modern day president that accomplished so much with this negative atmosphere; in one and a half years no less. The last time I saw anything like it was under JFK and Johnson, and I doubt they got as many policies up and running.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100720/ap_o...
I hope all the needy and the greedy appreciate what the Republicans did for them today. The two Republicans from Maine, Olympia Snow and Susan Collins voted to pass the unemployment extension for the people that have been unemployed for 6 months or longer.
Rough wrote
"I hope all the needy and the greedy appreciate what the Republicans did for them today..."
__________
Democrats will remember a lot of things about the Party of NO! and their refusal to extend benefits.
We'll remember that republicans think it's OK to extend Bush's $1.5 trillion tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% but not OK to help the unemployed who are suffering in Bush's Great Recession.
We'll remember all the GOP thugs who voted against the extension besides Snow and Collins.
If I was a right winger I'd be very afraid of the repercussions from this latest debacle. You guys aren't very smart, huh?
LastThroes, I lived just south of Houston for appx. 1.5 years.
The "Bubba" family certainly is huge there.
Well, I see the entire group of braying as****, oops, I mean Democratic donkeys have assembled to pat themselves on their respective As**** and try to convince each other that Armageddon is not going to occur on November 2.
Too bad, Donkeys, but the "Day of Delivery" is set and the polls indicate that the carnage for Democrats might be larger than originally thought. What does this mean for all you liberal loons?
First, the takeover of the House will mean that the funding for Obamacare will be slammed shut and the rest of his faux programs will be killed by a lack of funding.
Second, when the new breed of Republicans like Ryan, Cantor, Fiorina, Johnson, Paul, Pence and the like take charge, we will see the return to responsibility that this country desperately needs. They have learned the lessons of Republicans acting like Democrats and won't make that mistake again.
Third, they will present the "Prevaricator in Chief" a balanced budget for him to veto. That will hasten Mr. Obama's departure in 2012 and set the stage for the complete takeover of sanity in the spring of 2013.
Health care will NEVER occur. Gone!
Cap and Trade - HAH!
Unemployment for two or three Years - Adios!
Tax reductions for EVERYONE will be implemented!
About 100 days, baby, and you guys can break out the crying towels!
FYI Future...unemployment was not extended to 123 weeks, the bill restored Federal extended benefits to it's original tiers. Harry Reid releaized that the bill was not going to pass, so CHANGED It to a bare bones bill. Which the republicans kept saying they would vote for, if he did that. WELL, he did just that and guess what??? only 2 Republicans voted for it. Our very own Senator John Ensign voted against it again!!! (MBC under senate roll call.) A Senator from a state that has 15% uneployment!!! Highest unemployment in the NATION! If you think that he represents the people of his state, he doesn't!! I guess he's too busy keeping his girlfriends happy.
As I suspected the Dems don't appreciate what the Repubs did for them. I know it was only 2 Repubs but those 2 swung the deal for them. If I had a vote I would have voted for it too. I feel that is we can support all those wars we should at least make sure that SOME of the money we borrow will be spent on ourselves. Some of the posters on these pages think that every dollar spent on Unemployment Inshonce payouts grows the economy by 1.6 times. Lets keep it coming.
Vidi,
You lived near the Houston hellhole so you understand what happens when corrupt, right-wing thugs are in charge for decades.
Houston has the most toxic air of any major US city. The roads are crumbling and the crime rate has always been high. Then there's the small redneck towns throughout the state populated with far-right teabagger types -- the idiots who gave us GW Bush.
What an embarrassing mess.
There's delusional
and then there's Lady Gogo.
She's off her meds again and searching for those WMDs that are definitely hidden in a bunker somewhere near Baghdad.
Here's some great information from polling taken from the Berenson Strategy Group - Obama's primary pollster - regarding the policies of this administration.
Highlights:
54% Say Cut taxes for businesses to jump start economy
32% Say continue with Government trying to jump start economy
64% Say scrap the entire Obama plan and start from scratch
30% Say stay with the program
55% Agree that American companies are the backbone of the U.S. economy and we need to help them
37% Think corporations have too much power
http://www.cookpolitical.com/node/7655
This is really bad news for you liberal loons. America has figured it out and they REJECT the policies of this Socialist President. It seems that you liberal loons posting on this site are in the distinct MINORITY which will be ousted in November.
By the way, 65% of respondents DO NOT believe that the Republicans running for Congress will re-enact the policies of George Bush.
Sorry, losers, your argument has fallen on deaf ears!
The lowest of the low, ggws, has arrived late today and he seems to be really upset. He is using the "argumentum ad hominem" attack that attorneys use when they know their case is lost. At last resort "attack the man." Not only that , he is practicing "name calling" which always happens when truth destroys the misnformation.
Poor, poor pitiful ggws realizes that he, once again, has lost the battle with truth.
I have posted information from the most highly regarded pollster in the country. It shows the complete rejection of ALL Obama policies.
If you little girls have ANY reliable data to contradict the information provided by the Cook Report, please post it.
You won't because it doesn't exist. Thus, the fleeing to the desperation of trying to attack me personally. Doesn't bother me a bit!
Same as the Democratic leadership. The American public is on to the little gambit played by Harry and the Obamaites. Notice how little national outrage there was over the non-passage of the extensions? People are sick and tired of the nonsense. So....
Keep it up, Dems! The more you sob like little girls the more you look like the Party without leadership. The more you whine the less confidence the public has in your decision making ability.
Wah! Wah! Wah!
It will all be over in November.....
Hey gogo, about those politicians?
Do you mean:
Cantor - who's wife took mega millions in TARP for a small bank?
Fiorina - who drove Hewlett-Packard into the toilet, took her multi million golden parachute, and bailed?
Pence - involved in the $4 billion U.N. food for oil scam?
Paul - who suffers from "foot in mouth disease"?
GGW...little national outrage???? If you didn't see many blog on it it's because we were all busy slamming our Senators with e-mails! CNN did a story on it. CNN said the Senators were up set by all the e-mails they were getting after the negative vote.
lady gogo; more bad news,mo; they ended the unemployment filibuster in congressw and extended ozzies contract for 3 more years. (ok, i made up the part about ozzie.)
VernosB said..."When we take lobbying money and special interest corporations out of the system, then maybe both parties can agree to compromise."
When Senator Obama was campigning for President he said he was going to do away with lobbyists. I wonder if he meant that.
Look who is sobbing like a little girl with his 'Wah! Wah! Wah!
The American people are waking up to the blatant attempt to brainwash them by those that wear the tarnished Republican label, the Fox propagandists, hate radio, the MSM "puff piece' journalists, and the boot licking wingnut bloggers of which you are one.
Give a bit of thought:
First gogo somehow thinks Obama's programs will get wiped out. Won't happen.
Second, if you think the way gov't. operates now really sux, if the GOP wins the House, it will be a friggin horror show.
To Rough,
Like many things Obama tried he was met with obstruction, remember Gitmo and the terrorists tales?
Health Care:
Ta-Ta!
Cap and Trade:
Via Condios!
Two Year Unemployment Benefits:
Auf Wiedersehn!
All your socialist programs are going to be blowin' in the wind....
And rightfully so!
As for people "Storming the Bastille" and demanding the extensions, polling on the extensions WAS NEGATIVE. Just because a few of you blowhards sent e-mails doesn't mean that it was popular. Just read this cacophony of idiotic and delusional claims that the views expressed by the little girls of the far left on this blog are the views of the American Public at large. HAH!
If you have the GUTS read the info on the link I provided. If you want to hold onto some delusional idea that you will somehow escape the impending return to sanity - DON"T read the info on the link - it will shatter your little sheltered existence.
101 Days and counting, little girls - Parents back in charge!
I wonder why the propagandist uses "little girls' so much. Little boys cry too, immature men also cry. Why is the propagandist crying?
Constantly posting misinformation does not change the facts. Americans are beginning to understand the wingnut continual drumbeat of lies that are repeated over and over. Some have become incensed because they now realize that they were the target of lies in an attempt to brainwash them. Would you vote for a political party that is trying to brainwash you? Would you vote for a political party that uses fear to get your vote? Would you vote for a political party that lied to you to wage an unnecessary war that will cost trillions of the taxpayer dollars?.
Help me out here....
Maybe I missed it? What I'm talking about is the comments made by gogo concerning the latest RJ poll that showed Harry Reid leading "crazy Sharron" by some 7 points.
I'm sure gogo made a comment or two, didn't he? Surely he didn't just stick his head in the sand and ignore that poll....Not gogo, not gogo!
gogo loves polls.....For the last several months, he has quoted various polls showing Sharron leading Harry.
He has said that there's no way Harry can win come November...
Earlier he was willing to take bets that Harry will lose....I wonder if he is still willing to go down that road after seeing the latest poll?
Did he say anything at all about the latest RJ poll that showed that Harry had caught up and passed Sharron????
I looked for his comments but couldn't fine any....
Now gogo is quoting another poll saying that the Democrats are going to take a beating come November.....
He has also convinced himself that Obama will lose in 2012.....
Yep! You have to love that gogo....He's such a delusional little guy and so out spoken.....
It's a lot of fun reading his long, long delusional rants.....
I guess gogo believes his whitesoxs are going to win the world Series this year? Maybe Iowa will win the Big 10 football championship & Iowa State will win the Big 12...
The world according to gogo.....Ha! Ha! Ha!
no,el lobo, indiana. lady gogo hasnt been the same his whitesox won the series in'05. i thought they stopped serving falstaff years ago. poor kid now has to wait another 40 years for the next world series in chicago; that'll make gogo 89 years old, if hes still around.
El_Lobo, When ggws first came on he stated he was from Chicago.
gogo's prolly never even been to Chicago, and he most certainly isn't the South Side type. I think he just really, really likes nice clean tighty whitey sox. with sandals. and one of those fanny pack things the tourists like so much.
Actually I was the ONLY person to say that Harry Reid could beat Sharron Angle if he drove her negatives down below 42% - which he has accomplished.
So the statement made by one of the cryin' little girls on this blog is a LIE, which is not surprising.
Typically, I posted a link to the most highly respected pollster in the country and, because the reality of the results show the Democrats being completely out of touch with the American Public, it is branded as "misinformation".
But that's O.K. because come November 2 when the polls close and the Democrats are slaughtered, all the whining little girls on this blog can CONTEND that the election results are "Misinformation" and that the Democrats are still in control.
I wonder when reality will set in?
Election Night?
The swearing in of the New Congress?
More likely when the hullucinogenic drugs these girls ingest daily run out.....
It will all be over on November 2, little girls. The Parents will be back in charge!
And the race ain't over yet. Angle has now raised enough money to start hitting the Carpetbagger in his soft spot - every issue that relates to how the Dems have screwed up the economy.
Harry did a great job, though, flying up to Vancouver to grab a pot full of dough from a bunch of Canadian trial lawyers ......
Oh, yeah, Son of Nevada....NOT!
in the words of the immortal harry carey,"sox lose, sox lose!"

That's pretty funny--and quite scary, actually.
Do you mean the "return to responsibility" like Reagan tripling the national debt in 8 years?
Or do you mean the "return to responsibility" like Bush I doubling it in 4?
Or does your concept of a "return to responsibility" mean Bush II doubling the national debt in 8 years again?
Does a "return to responsibility?" mean invading a country because of supposed WMDs that don't exist? And spending 5 billion a month there seven years later?
Or invading Afghanistan, where the last two empires that invaded (Great Britain and Russia) got handed defeat on a silver plate? (What a surprise that it's now the longest war in U.S. history! Gee, that was a "responsible" move, right?).
Does a "return to responsibility" mean no health care reform and hence a return to the same spiraling health insurance costs that made those costs the #1 reason for bankruptcies under Bush II's term?
Does a "return to responsibility" mean imploding the entire national economy, as occurred under Bush II in 2007-2008?
Does a "return to responsibility" mean electing Sharron Angle, as a Nevada Senator, a woman who spent 25 years as a substitute teacher and claims that global warming is a hoax?

A woman who wants to kill Social Security?
Who doesn't believe in evolution?
Your idea of a "return to responsibility" is most people's version of an abdication of any responsibility whatsoever. Which is why the Republicans were thrown out on their ears by a majority of Americans almost two years ago.
It means a return to the policies that gave us this giant national debt in the first place and got us involved in two endless foreign wars. It means a return to the policies that caused the biggest implosion of our economy since the Great Depression.
Which the rest of us are still trying to clean up.
Your party drove the ship of state right down into the sea, like the Titanic, and 8 million survivors are still without jobs, swimming in the water, wondering how the captain was able to so easily and comfortably retire in Texas.
And your response? "Tell them to get a grip! Quit asking for life preservers! We won't give them any! Lazy bums! And by the way--the ship's crew that did this to you WANTS TO COME BACK!"
Thanks, but no thanks.
No more nightmares, please.

Why is Chicago the greatest?
I just saw a report on Fox Business that Chicago has lost a ton of convention business because the cost of setting up at McCormack Place and the like are too expensive because of the cost of union labor. What did the city do?
They are privatizing the convention business to cut the ties of the unions to the convention business!
Another repudiation of the ridiculous cost of union labor and the destruction of the labor "Rackets".
Awesome!!!!!!
Vernos...Every President is confronted with opposition. Mr Obama was confronted with opposition to his Health Care Plan and he got that done. He was opposed by the GOP in the finance reform and he managed to work that out. I think he just caved on Gitmo and lobbyists. Make no mistake, I'm giving him a B plus for his accomplishments. I don't even approve of some of them. I just wish he would show some real moxie and close Gitmo and try those pogues in a Military Court. Then give them a proper execution.
lady gogo, nice hearing from you but i gotta go and watch the latest lady gaga video.
Poor, poor, pitiful ggws has been so thoroughly brainwashed that he is unable to see the truth, not does he want to. His mind is made up, not by him, but by the talking points he gets from Cato, Heritage, Fox propagandists, hate radio, and MSM "puff piece" journalism.
Ggws has what is called an "authoritarian" personality and is perfectly willing to stay on his knees for his masters.
His opinions have all been formed for him and that is the way he likes it. He is afraid of the "pain of new thought"-the truth.
Poor, poor, pitiful ggws!
Hey, you union guys, I've got a great idea for you!
Why don't you organize all those homeless people who other unions have hired to walk their picket lines?
THen, when the lazy a** Teamsters can't get off their couch and walk their own picket lines you can nail them for $20 or $30 an hour instead of minimum wage like a good little union! And you could get corrupt administration officials like Barack Obama and Harry Reid to pass legislation making it mandatory to hire "picket walkers" from your union!
Sweet!
Always trying to help you union guys out!
gogo - "Why don't you organize all those homeless people"
The idiot speaks; as in veterans tossed onto the streets, or hard working people who've lost their homes?
Rough - "I just wish he would show some real moxie and close Gitmo and try those pogues in a Military Court. Then give them a proper execution."
I'm in agreement with you on that, except the executions for some. There are actually a few innocents in there hauled off the streets undeservedly.
Reagan increased the national debt by GIVING money back to the PEOPLE of the United States who paid taxes. Obama is destroying this economy by TAKING money from the American people and erecting gigantic entitlement programs which will increase in size until they bankrupt the country.
There is a world of difference in the two paths of increasing the deficit. Reagan's way allows growth to solve the problem. Obama's way has NO way to solve the issue.
Seems to me that Democrats also voted almost unanimously to invade Afghanistan and the Democrats also saw the EXACT same intelligence reports and voted to go into Iraq.
Only stupidty and a refusal to investigate what Sharron Angle's position on Social Security would make the statement that she wants to kill Social Security - stop drinking the Harry Reid Kool-Aid.
And for the idea of the "Abdication of Responsibility" - the Democrats are the ones whop want to GIVE everyone Health Care - not make the individual responsible for his own health care. The responsibility advocates want to limit the amount of unemployment you can get so you are personally responsible for your existence. Anyone saying the Democrats are the Party of "Personal Responsibility" is so delusional as to be laughable.
November 2, it's over girls...Parents back in charge!
Gee, I thought that would be a great idea....then those veterans tossed in the streets and hard-working people who lost their homes would be making $20-30 an hour!
Isn't that the goal of the unions, to help these people make a living wage?
I don't understand the negative comment......
gogo - "Reagan increased the national debt by GIVING money back to the PEOPLE of the United States who paid taxes"
Where have you been living? The six Reagan tax increases, or building a military war machine which included Star Wars, was giving money back? I suppose you don't know about the stock market crash of Oct. 1987 either.
Man! I can't believe the dribble you write. Do you phase in and out of an alternate universe?
Poor, poor, pitiful ggws posts misinformation and then more misinformation to try and prove his original misinformation.
Occasionally he cherry picks and puts that cherry on top of all the Gibby-rish misinformation and then tells us that it is a wonderful ice cream sundae.
Poor, poor, pitiful ggws has shown to everybody that he has no integrity, no values, and most certainly no honor.
Poor, poor, pitiful ggws, we do not believe you!
I'll also make the guess that if you polled the electorate of this country and asked one simple question:
Would you rather the Government follow the policies of Ronald Reagan or Barack Obama? The response would be a resounding vote FOR Reagan's policies and a complete REPUDIATION of Obama's.
Of course, all the free-loaders, nimrods and government dependent goofballs on this blog would vote for Obama, but that's understandable considering the lack of brain power exhibited by those of you spouting the "We Aren't Responsible for our Actions" Democratic line!
Here's a joke for you:
Q: Hear the one about the politician who put a bunch of programs in place that were total failures. What was his excuse?
A: It would have been worse if we hadn't done it!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's a good one!
From Wikipedia, just to show what a liar one of our delusional posters is regarding the legacy of Ronald Reagan:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Reagan gives a televised address from the Oval Office, outlining his plan for Tax Reduction Legislation in July 1981
Reaganomics (a portmanteau of Reagan and economics attributed to Paul Harvey[1]) refers to the economic policies promoted by the U.S. President Ronald Reagan during the 1980s. The four pillars of Reagan's economic policy were to:[2]
1. Reduce government spending,
2. Reduce income and capital gains marginal tax rates,
3. Reduce government regulation of the economy,
4. Control the money supply to reduce inflation.
In his stated intention to increase domestic spending while lowering taxes, Reagan's approach was a departure from his immediate predecessors. Reagan enacted lower marginal tax rates in conjunction with simplified income tax codes and continued deregulation.
William A. Niskanen, one of the architects of Reaganomics, summarizes the policy as "Reagan delivered on each of his four major policy objectives, although not to the extent that he and his supporters had hoped", and notes that the most substantial change was in the tax code, where the top marginal individual income tax rate fell from 70% to 28%, and there was a "major reversal in the tax treatment of business income", with effect of "reducing the tax bias among types of investment but increasing the average effective tax rate on new investment."[2][3] The effect was primarily a change in the composition of tax revenue, towards payroll and new investment, and away from higher earners and capital gains on existing investments, with comparatively small effect on overall tax revenue: the changes "reduced the federal revenue share of GDP from 20.2 percent in fiscal 1981 to 19.2 percent in fiscal 1989," a 1% reduction.
Just goes to show what a change in the TAX CODE can do for an economy as opposed to bulls*** tax credits and government "Investments" in crap like "Green" job developent.
As for Climate Change - It IS a complete hoax and the people who have perpetrated this nonsense should be thrown in a gulag near the Arctic Circle. They, of course, won't need heaters or blankets because the Earth is warming at such a trmendous pace....
With the new revelations about Shirley Sherrod, are you mental midgets able to admit you get duped by Fox News?

gogo - "From Wikipedia, just to show what a liar one of our delusional posters is regarding the legacy of Ronald Reagan"
How do you explain the fact that Reagan tripled the deficit of every president from Washington to him? Reagan himself said "I regret turning us from a nation of lenders to a nation of borrowers."
El_Lobo - "You're probably correct, but I believe my little gogo buddy attended college in Iowa..."
I have my doubts, he's even too radical for Iowa, I've spent time there and most people are laid back.
Lady Gogo
ALL the convention business here in Vegas is done with the help of living-wage, union workers. Union teamsters, carpenters, electricians, etc, set up EVERY SINGLE show that comes to town.
Which means those workers are able to pay their bills and feed their families because of those living-wage, union jobs.
NEXT! (Now, gogo back over to RushOxy's site and get a new talking point.)
Gogowhitesox writes teh following:
"Reagan increased the national debt by GIVING money back to the PEOPLE of the United States who paid taxes. Obama is destroying this economy by TAKING money from the American people and erecting gigantic entitlement programs which will increase in size until they bankrupt the country."
That's pretty funny. Every dollar that Reagan (who tripled the national debt), Bush I (who doubled it) and Bush II (who doubled it again) borrowed--WE STILL OWE. We, the people. The taxpayers. It's the same as if they had borrowed our national credit card, had run it up each time they were in office, and then handed it back to us and said, "gee, thanks." Not only do we still owe that money (to China, to India, to anyone who lent us the money to run up our debt) but we have also been paying interest on it for all of these years.
The only president in the last 40 years who has balanced the budget and even started paying down the debt was Clinton.
"There is a world of difference in the two paths of increasing the deficit. Reagan's way allows growth to solve the problem. Obama's way has NO way to solve the issue."
Actually, Reagan's way left us with a giant national debt. George Bush I called it "voodoo" economics" before Reagan asked him if he wanted to be VP. Then "voodoo economics"--borrowing more than you take in--became Bush's economics too. Clinton began to pay the debt down. George Bush II reversed that and doubled it again. Then left an imploded economy for Obama to dig out of.
"Seems to me that Democrats also voted almost unanimously to invade Afghanistan and the Democrats also saw the EXACT same intelligence reports and voted to go into Iraq."
Actually, Bush went into Afghanistan on his own accord. He never asked Congress whether he could go in or not. He went. Then declared "victory" some months later.
Ditto on Iraq. No president has received Congressional approval for an invasion since WWII. Unfortunately. It's something that we the people have to change. We ended up in Vietnam in exactly the same manner.
"Only stupidty and a refusal to investigate what Sharron Angle's position on Social Security would make the statement that she wants to kill Social Security - stop drinking the Harry Reid Kool-Aid."

You and your party had absolutely no answer to the fact that spiraling health insurance costs were the #1 cause of personal bankruptcies in America. Nada. Zero.
Nor an answer to the fact that more than 40 million Americans could not afford health care--and that number was increasing. No answer. And you still don't.

Iowa State class of '84.
As noted earlier, the deficit created by Reagan was able to be retired by the end of the Clinton administration due to the huge expansion of capital markets and business development under Reagan. Exactly my point.
The same cannot be said for Obama. The expense base is expanding exponentially and the prospect for financial expansion is bleak. A path to destruction.
As for union workers doing the shows in Vegas, that same comment would have been made by a union convention set-up guy in Chicago a couple years back.....but now he's out of business. When convention business starts to fall off here because costs are lower elsewhere the same thing will happen here - BANK ON IT!
"Killing" Social Security and phasing into a privatized Social Security system are two completely different ideas. Only someone trying to scare the daylights out of seniors would use that rhetoric. Thank goodness the American People are no longer buying into that fear mentality that you yahoos use to try to scare people. People under forty are very concerned that there will be no SS for them and want a change - WATCH FOR IT!
You guys are going to get killed. Same old tired game. Try to scare people and spread false information. Obama/Pelosi/Reid thought they had a mandate from the voters to change this country into the new U.S.S.R. where the Democrats would rule the Politburo. Well, your arrogance has gotten you trapped and the Democratic Party will have this administration around it's neck for the next thirty years.
It will all be over on Nov. 2, girls...Parents back in charge!
And if Harry Reid wins the election, it will be a hoot to see him standing in the well of the Senate for four years complaining that the Republicans are not being partisan followed by the then MINORITY sniveller bi***** about the Republicans using RECONCILIATION to pass major tax cuts and dump the onerous health care bill.
That might make it worthwhile to see the ole' Carpetbagger win!
OOPS... I meant to say "Bi-partisan". Harry knows exactly what PARTISAN means....
I always get a kick out of the right-wingers when they start their "Ronnie Reagan idol worship" rant.....
Ronnie's real claim to fame was his ability to tell a joke or two, and make numerous promises that he couldn't deliver on...
Don't get me wrong, Ronnie was actually a very nice man, but is over-rated as a president. Some historians are starting to say that very thing...
Reagan was a man who never really stopped acting despite the fact he was no longer in Hollywood. He was big on platitudes and short on carrying out the promises that he made to the American public.
He never had a balance budget and he carried huge deficits through out his 8 years in the White House.
Most conservatives today live and die with their image of "Ronnie Raygun."
Reagan always claimed to be a fiscal conservative, but the size of government and the cost of government actually increased on his watch....
Do you think it's hard to find a job these days?
How long have you been out of work?
The Obama administration is ready to legalize 12-20 million illegals and
give them work permits. Do you know what is means?
You thought that maybe you can find a job for $10-14 / hour.. huh?
Not anymore ! Those legalized illegals will take that job for minimum wage.

In other words, a very, very slow trickle... Maybe just a slow drip! Ha! Ha!
I'm always reminded what George HW Bush said about Reagan's "trickle down economics." I wonder if gogo remembers what Bush senior said? Probably not......Ha! Ha!
GoGo, I just had to repeat my post here for your benefit.
The more I read the more I understand many posting are clueless about how our gov't. works. There are lasting affects presidential policies have on our economy, some spanning more than 10 years. Entering office in 2008 or 2009 has abosolutely nothing to do with policies initiated in 2001 or 2003.
Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:
"Some critics continue to assert that President George W. Bush's policies bear little responsibility for the deficits the nation faces over the coming decade -- that, instead, the new policies of President Barack Obama and the 111th Congress are to blame. Most recently, a Heritage Foundation paper downplayed the role of Bush-era policies. Nevertheless, the fact remains: Together with the economic downturn, the Bush tax cuts and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq explain virtually the entire deficit over the next ten years."
"Just two policies dating from the Bush Administration -- tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- accounted for over $500 billion of the deficit in 2009 and will account for almost $7 trillion in deficits in 2009 through 2019, including the associated debt-service costs. (The prescription drug benefit enacted in 2003 accounts for further substantial increases in deficits and debt, which we are unable to quantify due to data limitations.) These impacts easily dwarf the stimulus and financial rescues. Furthermore, unlike those temporary costs, these inherited policies (especially the tax cuts and the drug benefit) do not fade away as the economy recovers."
Reagan-1981-1989, increased the National Debt 186%. During Reagan's term of office the Raiding Robber Barron Equity firms operated with impunity. Raiding American companies after hostile take over bids that basically used junk bonds/20% of the purchase price.Once inside the companies they stripped the pension funds, reduced or eliminated benefits, reduced wages, borrowed money on the company, and then sold those companies. Many of those companies never survived. Also, during this time the Junk Bond King was also doing damage to America and was given a free rein for a long time.
Bush Sr.(1989-1993) increased the National Debt by 62%. During his reign the Savings and Loan fraud occurred that cost the taxpayers $140,000,000,000 and will not be paid off until 2013.
Clinton only increased the National Debt 36%. paid down on the National Debt twice and at the end of his term we were well on our way to be debt free in 10 years.
bush jr. increased the National Debt almost 100% and during his term the financial markets almost collapsed after Wall St. tried to defraud the entire world. The full cost has not been measured yet, but that almost collapse has cost the USA 20% of it's total net worth which equated to over $11,000,000,000,000 dollars and will take 40 years to be replaced.
Special note:If this is what the supporters of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy consider as success, then they are much more than wingnuts-They are Criminal Wingnuts.
Why do middle class teabaggers hate middle class Americans?
Thanks for that post VidiVeritas, may I add, I think almost 2,000 of those savings and loans went out of business.
If one divides that $11 trillion dollars loss by the USA population of $309 million the result would be a loss of $35,600 for every man, woman and child in the USA.
Ooh, goodness! We must thank the totalitarian, corrupt, and incompetent party of "No" and "Obstruction" along with their totalitarian, corrupt and incompetent business cronies for this gift to each and every one of us.
I love it when you liberals take an isolated incident and try to portray it as the stnadard way companies were operating.
Junk Bonds were a very successful way of companies to finance expansion and development in the mid to late eighties. Yet, because of a few bad deals we're going to condemn everyone. When you buy a "Junk Bond" you are getting a higher coupon rate and also more risk. Simple mathematics.
Anybody that knows anything about economics knows that the infusion of dollars into capital markets does not cause results IMMEDIATELY. Those dollars , for example, which were used in great part to create the boom in the Silicon Valley, did not cause growth upon inception.
This from thenextright.com - winning back Silicon Valley:
Once, Silicon Valley -- the center of American technology -- leaned Republican. In recent years, the industry and the region as a whole has moved left. The Reagan tax cuts removed government as an obstacle to progress, helping make possible the era of Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. And Bill Clinton was wise enough not to tinker -- by and large -- with the Reagan consensus on free enterprise and capital formation.
How many employees do these firms employ? Started in the Reagan Era with the formation of Capital Markets.
Again, increasing the debt is done one of two ways. Decreasing your revenues by putting in tax cuts but holding spending level. Or spending more money and having your revenue base remain constant or decreasing. THe first lends itself to expansion and possible retirement of the debt. The second to a necessary cycle of raising taxes and reducing services while the debt grows.
Reagan did the first, Obama is doing the second. They are apples and oranges and if you liberals can't tell the difference you should never talk about the deficit.
And finally, I don't know how many times I've said this, but Bush did a lot of things wrong. But just like junk bonds, you guys want to try to convince the American Public that if the Republicans again gain control that George W. is going to magically reappear in the White House and implement every one of his policies. I again point you to the poll on the Cook Report which shows that an overwhelming majority don't expect Republicans to follow the lead of GWB (65%). But you guys can keep saying that and it will only cost you every election. I'll put the link here again, knowing none of you has the courage to read it.
http://www.cookpolitical.com/node/7655
Blaming GWB for all your failures has worn thin with the voting public and only Democrats who refuse to hold Obama/Reid/Pelosi responsible for anything will continue to blindly grab at that excuse.
But it will all be over soon, girls.....the parents will be back in charge on Nov. 2!
(You are all little girls because you will do or say anything your "Daddy" Harry Reid tells you to do. You're "Daddy's" little girls!- "I love you, Daddy")
Once again ggws is trying to defend the indefensible by using misinformation and then more misinformation to prove his original misinformation.
I wonder if ggws is obsessed with "little girls"
He seems to be making "Freudian slips" Is he trying to tell us something? Is this really a cry for help?
Heck, I have given him sites he could go to for a free psychological evaluation but I think he is afraid to go there.
Maybe, he should go visit Oklahoma City again!
Misinformation? Prove It!
Just throwing nonsense out there to conceal the fact that the Obama/Reid/Pelosi group can be described with one word:
INCOMPETENT!
Who's your "Daddy", Vidi? HARRY REID.
P.S. - I'll bet you have a full drawer of little girls panties - ever been arrested for your "problem"? - only a sick guy like you would think that way.....
Been to Oklahoma City many times. THey would take a letch like you who thinks of little girls as sex objects and run you out of town on a rail.
I'm sure you've visited those sites many times to try and control your sickness....
May God have mercy on your soul.
Detroit and Minnesota both lose!
White Sox have a chance to widen the lead....
One thing I will agree with an earlier post - give Ozzie an extension!!!
ggws is doin a 180 degrees again rather than face up to his real problems or admit his own past mistakes, just like the radical extremist republicans do.

corrupt party in history.
They will do or say anything to make President

They don't care about their fellow Americans.
They want their power back.
Well, that's not going to happen.
Americans no the truth.
We're sick of republican lies.
Vidi, you have a twisted sick mind that really needs some examination. You throw really sick aspersions out there which means that you these type of things actually cross your mind.
I really hope you don't have any nieces or nephews running around near you or that you have access to any weapons.
Good night to everyone else.....get some help, Vidi, you really need it....
ggws, Why will you not answer my questions? What are the dates you were in Oklahoma City, and what are your opinions on Investigators?
Hey GoGo, I told ya, start talking to the wall, it will be a more intelligent conversation than you will get with these brainwashed libs....:-)
Republicans have never been this desperate in
history.
They don't know which way to turn, like a dog

gogowhitesocks, who continues to blather nonsense all over the place, clearly has no idea about what he is talking about:
"As noted earlier, the deficit created by Reagan was able to be retired by the end of the Clinton administration due to the huge expansion of capital markets and business development under Reagan. Exactly my point."
This is a completely untrue statement. Reagan tripled the national debt. Very effective "tax cut plan" there. Bush I then doubled it. Every dollar that Reagan borrowed is still on our national "credit card" and we are still paying interest on Reagan's (and the two Bush's) fiscally irresponsible administrations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_de...
'"Killing" Social Security and phasing into a privatized Social Security system are two completely different ideas. Only someone trying to scare the daylights out of seniors would use that rhetoric."
No, au contraire. The Republicans have been trying to "kill" Roosevelt's New Deal--social security, unemployment insurance, the FDIC--ever since it was created. They still are.
The last person to try and kill social security was Bush--just before the economy imploded under his feet. The Republicans then justifiably got tossed out on their ear.
"You guys are going to get killed. Same old tired game. Try to scare people and spread false information."
Gee, I could swear you are talking about invading Iraq again. You know, the "nuclear mushroom clouds" that were going to appear from those WMDs, the constant juxtaposition of "9-11" and "Iraq" over and over, the cherry-picked bogus intelligence. If that was not "fear mongering" I don't know what is. Let's face it. The last administration was a master of it.
"Well, your arrogance has gotten you trapped and the Democratic Party will have this administration around it's neck for the next thirty years."
Actually, Obama has pretty much accomplished exactly what he campaigned upon--health care reform, financial reform, and getting through a stimulus package. That's why a majority of Americans elected him.
The only person who is consistently arrogant on this board is you.
AP
Every bill that the current administration has tried to pass has been abominated by the opposition in the hopes that they would become so vaccuous that the party in power would drop them.
I would like to know names of every politician who attaches ammendments or revisions to bills and the lobbiests who funnel them money.
As for Nevada, there would have been more federal money available for the state if the local public servants who keep raising their salaries had taken the time and made the effort to fill out the applications for the grants.
And why is it so problematic for the state to have a lottery? Most people who live here don't spend much time, if any, in the casinos, but they drive to the border to buy lottery tickets. If the casinos object, tell them to step up to help the economic recovery of the state, or start paying as much in taxes as casinos in other states do.
