Dear Mr. Sun,
Las Vegas weather question: Has this been the windiest spring on record or are we just experiencing the gaseous output from the primary politicians? — Dan West
The spring of 2010 was the windiest in a decade, but didn’t come close to being the windiest on record, according to the experts at the National Weather Service.
There is good reason, however, why Las Vegans might think this past spring was one for the books. “What made it seem so windy is that last spring was the calmest spring of the past decade,” meteorologist Larry Jensen said.
Broken down by month, March and April of this year actually were below average for wind. Only May, with an average wind speed of 11.5 mph, was above the norm of 11.2 mph for that month.
Meteorologists chalk up winds to temperature differences, but reader West might be on to something. With last month’s primary election fast approaching, the political winds were blowing at gale force throughout May.

Who is asking these questions? BOZO?
seems like just about every time i went out to boulder creek for golf on wed and thurs the wind was blowing
"Who is asking these questions? BOZO?"
Unless "Dan West" is Bozo's secret identity, not in this particular instance. But Bozo is a regular Sun and R-J "Comments" poster, particularly regarding stories that mention President Obama and/or Senator Reid.
Yes, April and May seemed calmer than usual and May seemed a tad bit windier and lasting the entire month (which is odd).
However, the wind nearly always calms down by June but this time it was one of the windiest I can remember (I guage it by difficulty of BBQing).
Got any figures on June?
Hey Mr. Sun, do you recommend Sunblock?
