Fatal accident
A 65-year-old man was killed this morning in a crash in the eastern valley while walking in a crosswalk on Boulder Highway, police said.
Officers responded at 6:17 a.m. to the crash at Boulder Highway and Missouri Avenue, which is south of Boulder Highway's intersection with Tropicana Avenue. Police said 52-year-old Wayne Morgan was northbound on Boulder Highway in his 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck when the vehicle struck the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after notifying family members.
This is the 38th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

with all due respect to the victim it seems like one has to be really careful driving these days on major roadways with regards to pedestrians darting across the streets trying to catch the bus or whatever spurs them to risk thier lives in this fashion
I'm guessing the ped is the one who died. Stay in the crosswalks or watch your @$$ people.
It's not the Ped's fault, it's the brain dead so called drivers of southern Nevada!!!!
Boulder Highway, Las Vegas
A payday loan center married to a liquor store
six lanes of highway between weekly apartments
a blanket
some sirens
an ambulance
by bullet or bullet car, it doesn't matter
with either, there is blood on the sidewalks
and there is the desire to numb
something
to stop the thoughts
as hits are reduced to Rorschachs
there is the desire
to starve the hungry ghosts
The story is very clear--the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk. I know this area well--this is not a place where a pedestrian would "dart across" to catch a bus, etc. There are very clear lines of vision up and down Boulder Highway at this point--the fault is clearly all with the driver, no serious question about that. I read recently that more people are killed in crosswalks than outside of crosswalks--largely because pedestrians believe they are somehow protected by these markings. Legally, yes. Physically, no. In our driver-centered culture, it's pedestrian beware, unfortunately--don't assume you are protected in a crosswalk.
I am so sorry for the loss of life and my sympathy to his family and to the driver.
I have nearly had an incident at the same crosswalk and it is a heart wrenching moment when you just about hit someone. That crosswalk has blinking amber lights that blink constantly, there is no indication to the drivers that a pedestrian in the process of crossing. I would suggest there be a crosswalk button that sets the lights blinking. That would at least have a change of status which would alert the drivers rather than constantly blinking amber lights.
HLB1 :
The real truth is that the drivers have to SLOW DOWN and pay attention to anything which can obstruct their path out ahead, including Ped crossings, stop lights oh.. and yes people. Southern Nevada drivers are some of the worst in the world because 3/4's of them have no business being behind the wheel of a potential rolling wheels death weapon.
