WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s re-election campaign raised $2 million in the final three months of 2009, taking in $15 million toward his $25 million goal, according to reports released today.

The campaign spent as much during the fourth quarter, and now has $8.7 million cash on hand as the campaign heads toward fall.

Reid dominates the fundraising so far, but Republican challengers continue to amass their own sizable warchests. Sue Lowden, the former state Republican Party leader, has indicated she could tap her family’s considerable wealth to run.

“Our campaign is fully operational and ready to ensure Sen. Reid will continue his work creating jobs and getting Nevada's economy back on track as leader of the Senate,” said campaign manager Brandon Hall. “These resources allow the campaign to highlight the choice they have between candidates whose rhetoric doesn't match reality and Sen. Reid’s record of delivering for all Nevada.”

Republican challenger Sue Lowden raised more than $800,000 during the last three months of 2009 in her bid for a U.S. Senate seat.

Overall, Lowden opponent Danny Tarkanian has collected $648,622 to mount the race for the GOP nomination.
