WEC adds Fredson Paixao vs. Bryan Caraway to March event

Las Vegas-based Paixao will look for first win in WEC organization

A featherweight bout between Las Vegas-based Fredson Paixao (8-3, 1 NC) and Bryan Caraway (14-4) has been added to the WEC 46 event March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, WEC officials said Thursday.

Paixao dropped a unanimous decision to Cole Province in his last fight, Aug. 9 at WEC 42. The loss later was switched to a no-contest when Province tested positive for steroids in a drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Caraway is coming off a first-round loss to Mark Hominick in his WEC debut Jan. 10 in Sacramento, Calif.

The 30-year-old Paixao is well-connected to the Las Vegas area. The four-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion is a highly respected jiu-jitsu instructor. WEC General Manager Reed Harris recently was promoted to a blue belt under Paixao.

Paixao lost his lone WEC bout, last April to Wagnney Fabiano by unanimous decision.

Brock Lesnar retires after first-round TKO defeat against Alistair Overeem

UFC 141 Alistair Overeem called it his "liver kick". Brock Lesnar just knew it hurt. Overeem sent Lesnar into retirement when he fired his foot into Lesnar's stomach midway through the first round of their heavyweight title eliminator bout. Lesnar crouched in pain after the strike and eventually fell to the mat. Overeem rushed in and threw a few more strikes, but Lesnar had nothing left. The referee pulled Overeem off to officialy give him the next shot at champion Junior dos Santos. In the co-main event, Nate Diaz upset Donald Cerrone after a week full of tempers flaring between the two lightweights.
