Shooting location

A 56-year-old man was shot Thursday morning near a Henderson elementary school.

The man was walking with his wife on a path near Cadence Street and Reunion Drive shortly before 8:30 a.m. when he felt a sharp pain in his neck. He then realized he had been shot, said Keith Paul, spokesman for the Henderson Police Department.

He was taken to Sunrise Hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, police said.

The man didn't see who shot him, Paul said. Police were knocking on doors in search of possible witnesses. Many residents in the area reported hearing the gunshot, police said.

Police don't believe the man was threatened before the incident.

Del E. Webb Middle School was put on lockdown as a safety precaution, Paul said. The lockdown was external, meaning students and teachers could move around inside the building, but couldn't exit.
