Two Metro motorcycle officers suffered minor to moderate injuries Thursday when they collided with a car that lost control and jumped the median on Nellis Boulevard, police said.

The crash happened about 2:15 p.m. between East Bonanza Road and East Harris Avenue.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate a Chevrolet Cobalt was southbound on Nellis in the left lane when the driver hit the brakes and lost control of the car, police said. The car went over the raised center median and into the northbound lanes, police said.

The two police motorcycles, which were headed north in the left lane on Nellis, hit the right side of the Chevy, ejecting both riders, Metro said.

The two officers, whose names were not immediately released, were taken to University Medical Center. Both were males, ages 43 and 49.

The driver of the car was identified as Veronica Sanders, 57, of Las Vegas. The wreck remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.

Metro Police Lt. Barb Schmidt said traffic was restricted in the area until police finished their investigation.
